Quinnipiac Drops Five-Set Match to Saint Peter's

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball program fell in five sets to the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Sunday afternoon in Hamden.
Leilani-kai Giusta led the team with 18 kills in the loss to Saint Peter's. Yagmur Gunes (17 kills, 11 digs) and Elena Giacomini (13 kills, 13 digs) both recorded a double-double in the effort.

SET ONE (25-19, Quinnipiac)
The Bobcats kicked off the match with a 17-8 scoring run as the Peacocks called their first timeout of the set. Yagmur Gunes led the Bobcats with four kills in that span.
Out of the timeout, Saint Peter's used a 10-6 run to make it a 23-18 lead for the Bobcats. After a Quinnipiac timeout, the Bobcats scored two of the next three points to capture the first set.
SET TWO (16-25)
Saint Peter's opened the second set on a 7-2 run, forcing the Bobcats to call their first timeout of the set. Out of the timeout, the Peacocks scored ten of the next 23 points to take a 20-12 lead.
After Quinnipiac used their second timeout of the set, the Peacocks were able to outscore the Bobcats, 5-4, to close out the second set.
SET THREE (18-25)
The Peacocks came out in the third set and went on a 10-5 run to force QU to call a timeout. After the break, the two teams traded points until the Peacocks called a timeout with them leading 22-17.
After the timeout, the Peacocks got three of the next four points to wrap up the third set and put them one set away from a win.
SET FOUR (25-8)
Quinnipiac opened on an 8-3 run as the Peacocks called their first timeout of the set. Out of the break, the Bobcats were powered by a 17-5 run to force the fifth set.
SET FIVE (15-17)
Saint Peter's opened the decisive fifth set on a 6-4 run, forcing the Bobcats to call a timeout. Out of the QU timeout, the Bobcats were able to take a 10-9 lead to force the Peacocks to call a timeout.
Three straight points from Saint Peter's out of the timeout forced the Bobcats to call their final timeout of the set. Quinnipiac tied the set at 14 when Saint Peter's called their final timeout. The Peacocks closed out the match with a 3-1 run and won the fifth set, 17-15.

The Bobcats will be back on home court on Wednesday, October 2nd as they take on Merrimack at 7 PM.

- Yagmur Gunes recorded her fourth double-double of the season as she recorded 17 kills and 11 digs.
- Elena Giacomini registered 13 kills and 13 digs to record her seventh double-double as a Bobcat.
- Bailey Brashear led the way on the defensive end as she recorded 3.0 total blocks.
- Damla Gunes recorded 41 assists and four aces in the effort.
