HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac field hockey is gearing up for its first BIG EAST game of the season, hosting Providence on Friday afternoon before traveling to Amherst, Mass. on Sunday afternoon to play UMass. Friday's game in Hamden will be streamed on GoBobcats.com and will begin at 3:00 PM, while Sunday's game at UMass will be on ESPN+ at 1:00 PM.

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac field hockey is gearing up for its first BIG EAST game of the season, hosting Providence on Friday afternoon before traveling to Amherst, Mass. on Sunday afternoon to play UMass. SCOUTING PROVIDENCE & UMASS
- Providence is 3-3 with wins over Bryant, Stonehill, and Dartmouth.
- Ally DeCoste leads the Friars with four goals.
- UMass is 4-2 with wins over Columbia, Dartmouth, BU, and UMass-Lowell.
- Elani Sherwood leads the Minutemen with five goals and two assists.
- The Bobcats fell 3-2 on Friday night at Lafayette, getting goals from Francisca Eschoyez and Lucia Donati.
- In the second game of the weekend, the Bobcats defeated Merrimack 7-1 in a record-breaking afternoon.
- Francisca Eschoyez scored four goals, tying a single game program record set in 1999 by Heather Cady.
- Martina Calveria broke the program record for single game assists.
- For her 5 goal, one assist performance this weekend, Francisca Eschoyez was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
- She is currently tied for fourth place nationally in goals with seven.
- Eschoyez is also tied for seventh nationally in goals per game.
- Lucia Pompeo was selected for the All-BIG EAST Preseason team, as announced by the league office Tuesday, Aug. 27.
- The senior was named Second Team All-BIG EAST a season ago after tallying six goals and four assists.
- Kate Zamagni, Cameron Brower, and Cristina Torres will captain the 2024 Bobcat squad, after being named by their teammates.
- This will be the first year in a leadership role for all three.
- Brower and Torres have each played in 30-plus games for the Bobcats, while Zamagni has seen the turf in 25.
- The Bobcats welcomed seven newcomers ahead of the 2024 season, including four international players.
- Jule Hoefer joins the Bobcats from Germany, Francisca Eschoyez from Italy, and Martina Calveira and Lucia Donati are both from Argentina.
- Emma Nelson and Zoe Bjelac join as first year's while Ava Bleier transferred from St. Louis University.
- The Bobcats also return 14 from a season ago.
- Nina Klein was named the head field hockey coach and second coach in program history, effective Friday, April 28, 2023, replacing longtime head coach Becca Main.
- In her first season at the helm of the Bobcats, Klein helped the Bobcats to one of their best finishes in BIG EAST play.
- Klein also helped guide Stella Tegtmeier to the first major BIG EAST award in program history, with Tegtmeier taking home BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year in 2023.
- A selector for USA Field Hockey U16 goalkeepers, Klein returns to Quinnipiac after serving as the assistant field hockey coach at Boston College for the 2022 season.
- Prior to her time at Boston College, Klein joined the Bobcats under Becca Main and was elevated to associate head coach in prior to the 2019 season.
- A UConn graduate, Klein served the Huskies as a volunteer assistant for the 2018 season.
- Klein also competed with the USA Field Hockey Women's National Development Team during her time as a coach with the Bobcats.
- In the Spring of 2019, Klein attended several training camps and a training trip with USA Field Hockey.
- Klein competed at the USA Field Hockey Young Women's National Championship and earned another invite to the USA Field Hockey Women's National Development Team selection camp in January 2020.
- The Bobcats' 2024 schedule will include 18 games in total (seven Big East games). Prior to the regular season, QU will match up in two exhibitions against UMass Lowell on August 18 and Holy Cross on August 25.
- The season will begin in Hamden, as the Bobcats play host to LIU on August 30 before traveling to Massachusetts to face Northeastern on September 1. After hitting the road, QU will play four of its next five contests at home.
- The Bobcats will host UNH on September 6 before celebrating its 30th year as a program against Stonehill on September 8. They will then play one road game at Lafayette on September 13 before returning home.
- QU will face Merrimack on September 15 and then open BIG EAST play in Hamden on September 20 while honoring Morgan's Message. Klein's squad will then hit the road for three straight games to end September.
- The Bobcats will first travel to UMass on September 22, before continuing conference play at Villanova on September 27. QU will return to Connecticut to face crosstown rivals Yale in New Haven on September 29.
- Quinnipiac begins October with two home games, first hosting Georgetown for Team Impact day on October 4. Lehigh comes to town the following Sunday, October 6.
- In-state BIG EAST foe Connecticut will host the Bobcats in Storrs on October 11 before QU plays three of its final five games at home. Brown comes to Hamden on October 14 for the team's Youth Day and Pink game.
- The Bobcats will travel to face defending BIG EAST Champion Liberty on October 18 before returning to Hamden for their two final home games. That weekend the Bobcats will host Old Dominion on Professor Appreciation Day (Oct. 25) and will finish the home slate against Sacred Heart with Senior Day (Oct. 27).
- QU will finish the regular season with a road trip to Temple on November 1.
