Women's Basketball Opens Season With Thrilling Win at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Quinnipiac Women's Basketball team opened their season with a thrilling come from behind victory over the Holy Cross Crusaders, 78-74, on Monday night.
Karson Martin led the Bobcats in scoring with 25 points and shot 62.5% (10-16) from the field and 50% (4-8) from behind the arc. In her collegiate debut, Gal Raviv dropped 22 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists.
Quinnipiac and Holy Cross took a few shots before getting on the board as the Crusaders led 7-6 at the first media timeout. Out of the break, Holy Cross closed out the first quarter on a 10-7 run to take a 17-13 lead at the break. Karson Martin led the Bobcats with five points in the first quarter, including knocking down a three-pointer.
Holy Cross held a four-point lead halfway through the second quarter, but two free-throws from Ella O'Donnell made it a 27-24 Holy Cross advantage at the media timeout. Holy Cross stayed ahead of the Bobcats for the remainder of the quarter and entered the half with a 37-32 lead.
The Crusaders increased their lead to eleven early in the third quarter as Quinnipiac called a thirty second timeout. The two sides traded points until Gal Raviv got a tough layup to fall to make it a four-point game at the media timeout.
It was all Bobcats from there in the third quarter. Jackie Grisdale got the steal and raced down the court for a layup to put an exclamation point on a 23-3 run to close out the quarter.
The Bobcats and Crusaders traded buckets in the fourth quarter as Quinnipiac was up by seven at the final media timeout. Free-throws down the stretch helped the Bobcats escape Worcester with a 77-74 victory on opening night.
