Quinnipiac Heads to Merrimack For Midweek Contest

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team takes on the Merrimack Warriors in a midweek contest on October 30^th. The match is slated to start at 7 PM inside Hammel Court.

SCOUTING MERRIMACK

The Merrimack Warriors enter the midweek contest with a 6-16 overall record and a 5-6 MAAC record in their first season in the conference.
Merrimack is coming off a weekend where they fell in both matches. On Saturday, Merrimack fell to Niagara in straight sets and on Sunday, the Warriors lost to the Golden Griffins in four sets.
Julz Carlat leads the offensive charge for the Warriors as she has recorded 198 kills this season in 19 matches. Carlat averages 3.23 points per set, 2.87 kills per set, and 1.61 digs per set.
On the defensive end, Morgan Thurlow leads the team with 65.0 total blocks for an average of 0.81 blocks per set in 80 sets played this season.

MAAC WEEKLY HONORS

Elena Giacomini was awarded with the MAAC Player of the Week award on Tuesday, October 29^th after she recorded a double-double in both matches last week.
Damla Gunes was named the MAAC Setter of the Week after she helped lead the Bobcats to two straight clean sweeps over Canisius and Niagara.

LAST TIME OUT

The Bobcats cleaned up on their road trip as they swept both the Canisius Golden Griffins and Niagara Purple Eagles last weekend.
Elena Giacomini recorded her ninth double-double (16 kills, 15 digs) of the season and her Bobcat career to lead the Bobcats to their eighth conference victory of the season.
Elena Giacomini (14 kills, 10 digs) and Yagmur Gunes (14 digs, 13 kills) each recorded a double-double in the sweep over Niagara.
The Bobcats improved to 9-2 in MAAC play, which has them in second place in the MAAC with seven matches left this season.

2023 SEASON REWIND

The Bobcats finished the season with 19 wins, including six straight to kick off their conference schedule.
The Bobcats finished 14-4 in MAAC play, which locked them into the No. 2 seed for the 2023 MAAC Championships.
QU defeated No. 6 Iona, 3-1, in the MAAC Semifinals to punch their ticket to the title game. QU ultimately fell in four sets, 3-1, to in-state rival Fairfield.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES

Quinnipiac women's volleyball has been selected number two in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll on August 21^st.
Junior Ginevra Giovagnoni was voted the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. In her second season as a Bobcat, Giovagnoni led the MAAC in kills per set (4.14) and points per set (4.67).
Along with Giovagnoni being named to the Preseason All-MAAC team, reigning Setter of the Year, Damla Gunes, was also named to the team.

HEAD COACH KYLE ROBINSON

Head Coach Kyle Robinson enters his sixth season with the Bobcats in 2024.
Robinson is 205-147 over his career as a collegiate head coach (7 seasons at LIU before QU)
Robinson has firmly cemented himself as one of the premiere college coaches in the NCAA's highest division. He effectively etched his signature on Quinnipiac volleyball by becoming the first head coach in program history to lead the program to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2022.

STRONG RETURNING GROUP

The Bobcats return 11 members who were on the squad last season.
Among those returners are Ginevra Giovagnoni, who appeared on the 2023 MAAC All-Championship team, Damla Gunes, the 2023 MAAC Setter of the Year, and the team leader in total points, Yagmur Gunes.

THE '24 SCHEDULE

The Bobcats' non-conference schedule continues as they travel to Brookville, N.Y. to take on the LIU Sharks (Sep. 3) before heading to Williamsburg, Virginia to take part in the William & Mary Invitational (Sep. 6-7).
QU will then head back to Virginia to compete in the George Mason Invitational (Sep. 13-14) in Fairfax. They will battle Navy and Old Dominion on the 13^th before wrapping up with George Mason on the 14^th.
Quinnipiac will wrap up their non-conference schedule with the Dartmouth Invitational against Dartmouth (Sep. 21) and Providence (Sep. 22) in Hanover, NH.
Head Coach Kyle Robinson and the squad return to Hamden as they take on the Rider Broncs to open MAAC play on Sep. 28.
Following a home battle with Saint Peter's (Sep. 29) and MAAC newcomer Merrimack (Oct. 2), the Bobcats will head to Fairfield for a 2023 MAAC Championship rematch on Oct. 5.
After a quick road trip to Fairfield, the squad returns home for three straight matches, against Sacred Heart (Oct. 6), Manhattan (Oct. 12), and Iona (Oct. 13).
Following the three-game homestand, QU will hit the road for six straight contests which begins at Marist on October 20. The Bobcats will head to Siena on October 21^st before heading to Buffalo to take on Canisius (Oct. 26) and Niagara (Oct. 27). To wrap up the road trip, the Bobcats will battle the two newer teams in the MAAC with a matchup against Merrimack (Oct. 30) and Sacred Heart (Nov. 2).
The Bobcats return to Hamden with a Sunday MAAC matchup with Fairfield (Nov. 3) and wrap up their home slate with a Saturday match against Siena (Nov. 9) and Marist (Nov. 10).
The Bobcats wrap their regular season on the road with bouts at Iona (Nov. 16) and Manhattan (Nov. 17).
