Quinnipiac erases 4-1 deficit, but hosts score late in 3rd to tie and in OT to claim win
ORONO, Maine — After roaring back from a 4-1 deficit in the second period, the No. 7/8 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program fell to No. 9/10 Maine by a 6-5 final in overtime as the Black Bears took both games of a weekend series up north.
The Bobcats fell down 2-0 before Aaron Schwartz's first collegiate goal made it 2-1 late in the first period.
Maine scored the next two, taking a 4-1 advantage just 55 seconds into the second period.
Tyler Borgula started the comeback, however, sending a cross-ice feed off the stick of the Maine netminder and into the net to cut into the deficit.
Two grad students would score less than three minutes apart to tie the game, with Jack Ricketts deflecting home a Mason Marcellus shot and Travis Treloar jammed home a puck in front with just over four minutes to go to tie the game.
Chris Pelosi's first Bobcat goal gave the visitors the lead with 13:21 remaining in the game off a great feed from Borgula.
Maine scored with 28 seconds left to tie it and then would win it late in the overtime session.
STATS AND NOTES
Quinnipiac takes on another Hockey East foe next weekend, as New Hampshire comes to Hamden for a pair of games. Friday night's puck drop is slated for 7 p.m., while Saturday's Bobcat Weekend matinee is slated for 4 p.m. Both games can be seen live on ESPN+.
