HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team took down the Manhattan Jaspers by a score of 71-59 on Saturday afternoon in Hamden. Karson Martin led the way with 19 points and was 3-6 (50%) from three-point range.
With the win, the Bobcats will improve to 6-6 on the season and 3-0 in the MAAC, while Manhattan will fall to 9-4 overall and 2-2 in the MAAC. Quinnipiac picks up their first win against Manhattan since Jan. 26, 2023.
Quinnipiac got off to a hot start with Karson Martin scoring five of the Bobcats' first seven points. Manhattan went on a 7-0 run to tie the game up halfway through the first quarter. The Jaspers took the lead on a layup of their own before hitting a three to give them a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Out of the break, it was all Bobcats, who took the lead on a Karson Martin three just over a minute into the quarter. The Bobcats were able to stretch their lead to seven after Bri Bowen hit a three to send the Bobcats into the media timeout.
Out of the media timeout, the Bobcats continued their dominant quarter as Kassidy Thompson hit a corner three to send Quinnipiac into the locker room with a 13-point advantage.
The third quarter saw the teams trade points as the Bobcats took a 12-point lead into the media timeout. Karson Martin led the way with four points in the third quarter as six different Bobcats recorded a basket in the frame.
In the final quarter, the Bobcats were able to grow the lead to 14 as Grace LaBarge knocked down another three. The two teams traded points the rest of the way until the Bobcats defense stepped up, not allowing a Manhattan field goal to fall in the last four minutes of the contest. A free throw at the end by Maria Kealy sealed the deal as the Bobcats won by a final score of 71-59.
