Martin Scores 23, Bobcats Fall to Canisius

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team fell to the Canisius Golden Griffins by a score of 69-58 on Thursday night. Karson Martin set a new career high with 23 points on 50% shooting from the floor.
With the loss, the Bobcats will fall to 7-8 on the season and 4-2 in the MAAC, while Canisius will improve to 10-6 and 5-2 in conference play. This is Canisius's first win against the Bobcats in program history.
Quinnipiac jumped out to a fast start with Karson Martin scoring five of the Bobcats' first seven points heading into the media timeout.
The Bobcats would force the Golden Griffins to earn their points on the free-throw line as they held them without a field goal for the first quarter. Anna Foley got a layup to fall on the fast break to out the Bobcats up nine after one quarter.
The Bobcats would extend their lead to 17 before Canisius would creep back in, making it a nine-point ballgame at the media timeout. Quinnipiac would build on their lead out of the timeout and heading into the locker room at the half up 15. Karson Martin led the Bobcats with 17 points at the half.
Canisius would come firing out of the locker room shrinking the lead down to five at the media timeout. After some back-and-forth scoring the Bobcats found themselves with just a three-point lead heading into the final quarter.
The Golden Griffins would take over the lead as Mackenzie Amalia hit a three as the shot clock expired. The final minutes of the game was all Canisius as they would build an 11 point lead to seal the deal.
