QU Earns Home MAAC Win vs. Iona

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball defeated the Iona Gaels by a score of 70-64 on Saturday afternoon in Hamden. The leading scorer for the Bobcats was Karson Martin with 22 points.
With the win, the Bobcats will improve to 7-7 on the season and 4-1 in the MAAC, while Iona will fall to 6-8 and 1-4 in conference play. This is Quinnipiac's first win since Feb. 12, 2022, where they defeated the Gaels by a score of 78-49.
Iona jumped out to an early 10-0 lead to force Quinnipiac to use their first timeout. The Quinnipiac offense came back as Karson Martin knocked down a three to bring the Bobcats within one.
Iona ended the first quarter up three and extended their lead to five early in the second quarter. Another three from Karson Martin put the Bobcats in the lead for the first time.
The two sides traded points for the remainder of the second quarter and the Bobcats held a three-point lead heading into the halftime break.
Karson Martin led the Bobcats out of the half, scoring the Bobcats' first four points of the half, forcing Iona to use a timeout.
Out of the break, Iona was able to take the lead and eventually end the quarter leading Quinnipiac by two.
The Bobcats started hot in the fourth quarter, scoring the first four points. Ava Sollenne knocked down a layup to put the Bobcats in the lead.
After the two sides traded points the rest of the way, Anna Foley was able to get loose and knock down a layup to extend the lead to six.
The Bobcats never let the Gaels back in the game as they were able to seal the win over the Iona Gaels.

The Bobcats never let the Gaels back in the game as they were able to seal the win over the Iona Gaels.
NUMBERS AND NOTES
- Karson Martin led the way with 22 points, a new career high. She also recorded six rebounds, which is also a career high.
- Martin also led the way with four assists in the winning effort.
- Ella O'Donnell recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
- Anna Foley tallied 13 points, including her first collegiate three.
- Foley also recorded eight rebounds, which was second on the team.
- In her first collegiate start, Ava Sollenne recorded 11 points, setting a new career high.
- Quinnipiac outrebounded the Gaels, 42-35.
- The Bobcats shot 46.9% from the field, while shooting 31.6% from three-point range.
- The Bobcats will head up to Buffalo, NY to take on the Canisius Golden Griffins on Thursday, January 18.
