Bobcats Set MAAC Record to Open Championship

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Quinnipiac women's golf opened play at the MAAC Championship in strong fashion, as the Bobcats lead the field as a whole and saw three student-athletes rank within the top-10 at the tournament held at Disney's Palm Golf Course Friday afternoon.
Quinnipiac sits in first place after scoring 291 (+3) in the first round, standing a stroke ahead of UAlbany. Quinnipiac's score of 291 (+3) is a MAAC Championship team record for a single round.
Fuge Zhang led Quinnipiac's grouping after day one, tying for second place after shooting 70 (-2) to open play at the tournament. Zhang logged five birdies, including a stretch of three in the front nine to sit at 35 (-1) after the first nine holes of play.
Leeyen Peralta narrowly trails Zhang at 72 (E), tying for fifth place. Sitting at +5 through the first five holes, Peralta locked in and logged three birdies and two pars over her next six holes.
Kaylee Sakoda is tied for eighth after the first day of play, shooting 73 (+1). Sakoda logged nine consecutive pars to open her day, sitting at an even 36 through the front nine. After sitting at +1 through 14 holes, Sakoda picked up a birdie on 15, followed by a highlight-worthy 25-foot putt to log par on 16.
Meg Yoshida rounded out Quinnipiac's team scoring, shooting 76 (+4) to tie for 11th. Aimee Uchida wrapped up the Bobcat scores, as she is tied for 23rd after scoring 79 (+7).
The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday, April 22, when they continue play at the MAAC Tournament.
