Strong Defensive Showing Powers Bobcats Past Canisius, 73-36

HAMDEN, Conn. – Behind a strong defensive output, Quinnipiac women's basketball extended its win streak to seven consecutive games with a dominant 73-36 home victory over Canisius Thursday afternoon in front of 2,877 fans inside of M&T Bank Arena.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 16-7 overall on the season and 11-3 in the MAAC, while the Golden Griffins fell to 6-16 overall and 3-10 in conference play. Jackie Grisdale led the Bobcats with a season-high 20 points in the victory, while Rose Caverly added 11 points and eight assists in the win.
The two sides were nearly even halfway through the opening quarter, with Quinnipiac holding a narrow 10-9 lead at the media timeout. Out of the timeout, the Bobcats closed the frame with a 8-4 run to carry an 18-13 lead into the second.
Quinnipiac maintained momentum in the second, outscoring Canisius 16-4 in the period to take a commanding 34-17 lead to halftime.
The Bobcats kept their foot on the gas in the third, opening the half with an 11-0 run to sprint ahead 45-17 by the media timeout midway through the third.
Quinnipiac's run reached as much as 13-0 before Canisius scored their first points of the half with 4:03 remaining in the third, before Quinnipiac closed the quarter with a 58-27 lead.
The Bobcats never let up, going on a swift 4-0 run to open the quarter before the Golden Griffins burned a timeout.
The deficit proved to be too much for Canisius, as Quinnipiac cruised to a 73-35 victory.
