HAMDEN, Conn. – Behind double-figure scoring from four different Bobcats, Quinnipiac women's basketball extended its win streak to six consecutive games with a 73-45 home victory over Marist Saturday afternoon inside of M&T Bank Arena and in front of dozens of Quinnipiac women's basketball alumnae.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 15-7 overall on the season and 10-3 in the MAAC, while the Red Foxes fell to 10-11 overall and 6-6 in conference play. The win extended Quinnipiac's win streak to six straight games, its longest since the 2018-19 season. Mikala Morris, Mary Baskerville and Rose Caverly scored 12 points apiece, while Jackie Grisdale tallied 10 points of her own in the victory.
It was a back-and-forth affair between the two sides early on, as Quinnipiac held a narrow 11-10 lead with 4:52 left in the opening period and entering the media timeout. Out of the break, the Bobcats closed the quarter with a 7-1 run, with five points coming from Ella O'Donnell to extend Quinnipiac's lead to 18-11 entering the second.
After Marist cut Quinnipiac's lead to 22-16, the Bobcats went on a 9-3 run, capped by a highlight crossover and score from Rose Caverly to extend the lead to 31-19 with 3:35 remaining in the half.
The Red Foxes outscored the Bobcats 6-4 the remainder of the half to cut their deficit to 35-25 entering the break.
Quinnipiac opened the third quarter on fire, scoring six straight points before Marist called timeout down 41-25.
Out of the timeout, the Red Foxes responded with an 8-2 run of their own to trim their deficit to 43-33 with 4:50 remaining in the third quarter. However, Quinnipiac turned up the pressure on both sides of the ball, closing the third quarter with a 12-2 run to carry a 55-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
Quinnipiac did not take its foot off the gas, opening the fourth quarter with an 11-4 run to push its lead to 66-39. The deficit proved to be too much for the Red Foxes, as the Bobcats cruised to the 73-45 victory.
