Bobcats Celebrate Senior Day With 13-Point Victory Over Fairfield

HAMDEN, Conn. – It was a full-on defensive effort as Quinnipiac women's basketball held Fairfield to 39 points in the Bobcats' 52-39 victory over the Stags to celebrate Senior Day on Saturday afternoon inside M&T Bank Arena.
With the win, the Bobcats close the regular season at 21-8 overall and 16-4 in the MAAC, while the Stags wrap up regular-season play at 15-14 overall and 11-9 in conference play. Mary Baskerville led the way for Quinnipiac with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks for her fourth double-double of the season. Cur'Tiera Haywood added eight points and a career-high 11 rebounds in the victory.
The two sides traded points in the opening frame with Quinnipiac carrying a 15-12 lead into the second, with seven different Bobcats scoring in the quarter. The Bobcats turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter, forcing the Stags to shoot 1-for-17 (5.9%) in the second quarter. The Bobcats outscored the Stags 9-2 in the frame to take a 24-14 lead into halftime.
After the Bobcats extended the lead to 28-14, the Stags responded with a 7-0 run of their own before Quinnipiac called a timeout leading 28-21 with 6:10 remaining in the third quarter. Out of the break, Fairfield outscored Quinnipiac for the remainder of the quarter to cut the Bobcats' lead to 33-28 entering the fourth.
The Bobcats opened the fourth quarter with an 8-5 advantage over the Stags over the first five minutes of the frame to extend the lead to seven points.
Out of the timeout, Jackie Grisdale scored back-to-back buckets to extend the lead to 11 points, forcing a Fairfield timeout with 2:12 remaining in regulation.
The deficit proved to be too much for Fairfield, as Quinnipiac held on for the eventual 52-39 victory.
