HAMDEN, Conn. — The Battle of Whitney Ave., rivalry between the No. 10 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program and Yale will be the second game of the first two home league matchups of the 2023-24 campaign at M&T Bank Arena as the Bobcats host the first of back-to-back ECAC weekends in Hamden.

The Bobcats will welcome Brown for a Friday night puck drop before hosting the Bulldogs in the annual Heroes' Hat rivalry on Saturday. Both games are slated for 7 p.m., puck drops and can be seen live on ESPN+.

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST (PERIOD)

The Bobcats have been attacked in the third period this season, outscoring their opposition by a 13-1 margin in the final 20 minutes of play.
They have put up a pair of four-spots in the final frame, tallying that number in a 5-2 win at New Hampshire on Oct. 21 and, most recently, a 6-0 win at Harvard on Nov. 4.
The 13 goals in the frame have come from 10 different scorers, with Mason Marcellus, Jacob Quillan and Travis Treloar all recording two.

THE HEROES' HAT

Given after the last regular-season contest between Quinnipiac and Yale in Hamden, the award was established in honor of those who risked or lost their lives following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. It remembers Joseph Mascali (FDNY/Staten Island 5), father of Quinnipiac alumni Chris '05, Jenn '02 and Katie Mascali '14.
The "Heroes Hat" is be presented to the winning team by the Muscali family, who lost their husband and father, Joseph, while he was attempting to save lives on September 11. Joseph was the father of Quinnipiac freshman golfer, Chris Mascali '05, Jennifer Mascali '02 and Katie Mascali '14.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS

A year after boasting the nation's stingiest defense en route to a national championship, the Bobcats are again amongst the nation's best in scoring defense, ranking second entering the weekend.
They currently allow 1.78 goals per game, which is second only to Cornell.

PK SUCCESS

Quinnipiac has killed 35 of its 36 power plays against this season recording a percentage of .972 through the first seven games, only allowing a man-advantage goal on Oct. 21 against New Hampshire.
That is good for second amongst qualified teams and the best by a team with 20 or more power plays against on the season.

MY COUSIN VINNY

Netminder Vinny Duplessis has found a groove between the pipes for the Bobcats, posting a sub-1.00 goals-against average in starting the last three games.
He has made 70 saves on 73 shots during that span (.959) and recorded his first shutout in a Quinnipiac sweater on Nov. 4, stopping all 17 shots on his net.

HOME SWEET HOME

Quinnipiac enters the 2023-24 campaign with five players from the state of Connecticut, the most since the program turned Division I. The Bobcats host five of the 42 players from CT on their roster.
A pair of granite state players return from last season in Victor Czerneckianair and Timothy Heinke, while Cooper Moore came home after three years at North Dakota and Matthew McGroarty and Andon Cerbone chose to play their college hockey in their home states.
