ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Junior captain guard Jackie Grisdale scored a game-high 24 points, as the Quinnipiac women's basketball came up short in its first-ever matchup with Towson, 75-65, in the finale of the Navy Classic Sunday afternoon inside Alumni Hall.
Anna Foley added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the first double-double of her collegiate career, while Ella O'Donnell chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 1-4 in the early campaign, while Towson improved to 3-1 to start the 2023-24 season.
The two sides exchanged points through the opening first five minutes of play with Quinnipiac trailing 11-10 despite six points from Anna Foley early on.
The Bobcats outscored the Tigers 9-6 the remainder of the frame to carry a 19-17 lead into the second quarter behind 15 combined points from Ella O'Donnell and Foley.
The two sides remained deadlocked through the first five minutes of play in the second quarter, holding a 26-26 tie midway through the frame. Neither side could gain much separation from the other into the half with Quinnipiac taking a 36-35 lead into the break.
The Tigers opened the second half with an 8-4 run to take a 43-40 lead over Quinnipiac, forcing Head Coach Tricia Fabbri to call a timeout with 6:10 remaining in the third quarter. The Bobcats responded by tying the contest at 43-43 immediately out of the timeout after Jackie Grisdale nailed a three-pointer from the wing.
However, Towson closed the frame with a 20-9 run to carry a 63-52 advantage into the final quarter.
The Bobcats were able to cut the deficit to as low as 10 with 2:42 remaining, but it wasn't enough as Towson held on for the eventual 75-65 victory over Quinnipiac.
