HAMDEN, Conn. — The No. 7/8 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program opens its Cleary Cup defense this weekend, as they head to Dartmouth and Harvard to begin the ECAC portion of its schedule.
The Bobcats are coming off a weekend split with Hockey East foe Maine, which saw them score four unanswered in the Saturday night matchup to earn a 4-1 victory over the Black Bears. Quinnipiac enters league play as the highest-ranked ECAC team as it looks for its fourth consecutive regular season title.
CLEARY DEFENSE
- The first weekend of November signals the beginning of ECAC play for the Bobcats, as they head to Dartmouth and Harvard to open the league schedule.
- Quinnipiac will look to earn its fourth consecutive Cleary Cup and eighth overall, after winning 20 of its 22 league games a season ago to clinch the league's regular season championship. It was the first time since the 1988-89 season an ECAC team finished with 20 league wins.
FINDING A GROOVE
- After going without a point in his first three games, first-year forward Andon Cerbone has recorded four in his last four games, including a multi-assist outing against New Hampshire on Oct. 20.
- His three assists are the most amongst Bobcat first years.
PK SUCCESS
- Quinnipiac has killed 30 of its 31 power plays against this season and 41 consecutive dating back to last season, recording a percentage of .968 through the first seven games.
- That is good for third amongst qualified teams and the most by a team with 20 or more power plays against on the season.
MEMORABLE DEBUT
- Mason Marcellus scored in his first collegiate game on Oct. 7, finding a loose puck behind the BC netminder and stuffing it home to tie the game with 5:28 to go in regulation.
- He became the second Bobcat in as many seasons to score in their collegiate debut, with Charles Alexis Legault scoring in his first collegiate action against Oct. 7, 2022, also against Boston College in a 4-0 win.
HOME SWEET HOME
- Quinnipiac enters the 2023-24 campaign with five players from the state of Connecticut, the most since the program turned Division I. The Bobcats host five of the 42 players from CT on their roster.
- A pair of granite state players return from last season in Victor Czerneckianair and Timothy Heinke, while Cooper Moore came home after three years at North Dakota and Matthew McGroarty and Andon Cerbone chose to play their college hockey in their home states.
