
Fillion, Pennington Score as No. 2 Bobcats Tie No. 18 Northeastern in Exhibition

BOSTON — Christophe Fillion and Davis Pennington each found the net for the No. 2 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program, but the Bobcats would tie No. 18 Northeastern 2-2 in an exhibition contest on Sunday evening at Matthews Arena in Boston.
Fillion opened the scoring, potting home a dish from Cristophe Tellier just under three minutes into the contest to give the Bobcats the early advantage.
Northeastern would tie it in the first on the power play and take the lead into the second intermission, but Tellier would again dish an assist, this time to Pennington who was able to tie the game at the 7:18 mark of the third.
Matej Marinov made the start and played all 65:00 in between the posts, stopping 36 of Northeastern's 38 shots on cage in his first collegiate action.
STATS AND NOTES
The Bobcats will play a home-and-home weekend with American International on Oct. 13 and 14. The two teams will meet in Springfield, Mass. on Oct. 13 before heading back to Hamden for a 7 p.m. puck drop at M&T Bank Arena on Oct. 14.

- Tellier recorded a pair of multi-assist games a season ago and is one of nine Bobcats on the roster who dished a pair of helpers in a single game last season.
- Fillion enters his junior campaign with 13 career goals, with seven of them coming during the 2022-23 campaign.
- Pennington enters his Bobcat career with 23 career points after a 16-point year with Omaha last season.
- The two teams will meet again on January 6 at Matthews, with the Bobcats owning a 6-1-2 record against Northeastern in a series that dates back to 2002. Quinnipiac swept a weekend series with the Huskies in 2017 in Boston in their last meeting at Northeastern.
