No. 8 Women's Ice Hockey Sweeps New Hampshire
DURHAM, N.H. — Four different skaters scored a goal apiece to push No. 8 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey past New Hampshire, 4-1, on the road Saturday afternoon to earn the weekend sweep over the Wildcats.
The Bobcats struck first in the opening frame on their first powerplay opportunity. Kate Reilly set up the attack and shuffled a pass to Maya Labad on the left. Labad streaked across the blue line, moved on her defender, and fired home top shelf to put Quinnipiac ahead 1-0.
Later in the same frame, Quinnipiac struck again on another powerplay attempt. In the final seconds of the advantage, Maddy Samoskevich sauced a pass to Kendall Cooper who fired home. After the keeper made a save, Sadie Peart snuck in and directed the puck into the back of the net to extend the Bobcat lead to 2-0.
The Bobcats waited until the second period to score their third goal of the afternoon. With the two sides at even strength at 4-on-4, Reilly sent a pass to Zoe Uens from the slot who found Jess Schryver on the blind side of the keeper. Schryver at the doorstep flipped the puck over the keeper's shoulder to push the lead to 3-0.
After UNH tallied a goal in the second to trim the QU lead to two, the Bobcats responded with a goal in the third to put the finishing touches on the weekend. Samoskevich set up the offense topside then sent the puck to Peart behind the goal line. Peart found Nina Steigauf on the doorstep and she put it home to secure the 4-1 victory.
