Caverly Scores Season-High 18 in Bobcats' Road Win Over Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Carried by offensive efforts from Rose Caverly and Cur'Tiera Haywood, Quinnipiac women's basketball was able to stave off Marist in a 58-52 road victory Saturday evening inside of McCann Arena.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 11-7 overall on the season and 6-3 in the MAAC, while the Red Foxes fell to 8-10 overall and 4-5 in conference play. Caverly led the way for Quinnipiac with 18 points and added six rebounds and six assists, while Haywood added 14 points and six rebounds of her own in the win.
It was a back-and-forth first quarter which saw Quinnipiac carry a 13-11 lead into the second, led by seven points from Cur'Tiera Haywood in the frame.
The two sides exploded offensively in the second quarter, with Quinnipiac outscoring Marist 22-19 in the quarter. Rose Caverly came alive offensively, drilling four consecutive three-pointers for 12 points in the frame to give the Bobcats a 35-30 lead into the break.
The Bobcats maintained momentum into the third quarter, going on a 6-0 run behind 3-for-3 shooting and led by four points from Caverly to stretch their lead to 41-30 into a Marist timeout.
Out of the timeout, Marist responded with a 9-0 run to trim its deficit to 41-39 with 3:16 remaining in the third quarter. However, Quinnipiac remained unwavered and outscored Marist 7-2 the rest of the period to take a 48-41 lead into the fourth.
Marist would not go away, opening the quarter with a 4-1 run before Tricia Fabbri called timeout leading 49-45. Out of the break, Quinnipiac upped its lead to 51-45 before Marist fought back to cut the Bobcats' lead to 53-51 with 48 seconds remaining in regulation.
However, Grace LaBarge scored a basket and drew the foul for the three-point play, pushing Quinnipiac's lead to 56-51 with 26 seconds remaining.
The lead proved to be too much for the Red Foxes, as the Bobcats held on for the 58-52 victory.
