Incoming Goalkeeper Dazzles Over Summer for Club and U18 Spanish National Team
HAMDEN, Conn. - Incoming Quinnipiac field hockey student-athlete Cristina Torres (incoming class of 2022) had a stellar showing in her home country of Spain this past summer, playing for her club team Junior FC and the U18 Spanish National Team.
Torres opened the summer playing for her home club team Junior FC, where she led them to a playoff berth. In three tournament contests, she allowed just one goal as she helped lead Junior FC to a Spanish Championship victory en route to earning the Best Spanish Goalkeeper Award.
After concluding her season with Junior FC, Torres began training with the U18 Spanish National Team in preparation for the U18 European Championships.
After advancing through pool play, Spain found themselves in the semifinals against Germany, eventually falling 1-0 in shootouts after tying 0-0. Spain went on to earn the Bronze Medal at the U18 European Championships, with Torres earning the U18 European Championship Best Goalkeeper Award.
"We are very proud of the work Cristina put in over the summer," Head Coach Becca Main said. "To earn two individual awards while helping lead your home National team to new heights is stellar. We are thrilled and cannot wait for her to join us for the fall."
