Bobcats' Comeback Attempt Falls Short at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Despite the eighth double-double of the season from Mikala Morris, the Quinnipiac women's basketball team fell on the road at Monmouth, 64-55, Saturday afternoon inside of the Oceanfirst Bank Center, snapping the Bobcats five-game win streak.
Morris led the way with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Amani Free added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists in the loss. First-year Jackie Grisdale contributed 14 points and a career-high seven rebounds in the first start of her career.
The Bobcats fell to 13-8 on the season and 8-4 in the MAAC with the loss, while the Hawks improved to 11-8 on the campaign and 6-4 in conference-play with the loss.

- Five different Bobcats scored during the stretch, led by Amani Free's six points
- Monmouth closed the quarter with an 8-0 run to trim the Bobcats' lead to 18-13 entering the second quarter
- After Quinnipiac built its lead up to 21-13, Monmouth responded with a 7-2 run to trim its deficit to 23-21 with 4:12 remaining before the half
- The Bobcats were able to maintain a lead into the half, taking a 29-26 advantage into the break
- Monmouth used opening six minutes of the half to go on a 10-4 run to take a 40-36 lead
- After a Makenzie Helms three-pointer cut the deficit to one, Monmouth closed the quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 47-39 lead into the fourth
- QU outscored Monmouth 16-8 over the first 6:10 of the fourth to tie the contest at 55-55
- However, the Hawks held the Bobcats scoreless the final 2:49 of the contest, eventually holding on for the 64-55 win over QU
- The win snapped Quinnipiac's five-game wins streak
- Mikala Morris led the way with 16 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double
- The double-double marked her eighth of the season, which is tops on the team
- Morris scored 10 of her 16 points in the first half
- Jackie Grisdale contributed 14 points and a career-high seven rebounds in the loss
- Amani Free added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists
- Free has reached double-figure scoring in six straight games
- She scored nine of her 11 points in the first half
- The Bobcats will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 7, when Quinnipiac returns home to Hamden to play host to Canisius in a MAAC matinee
