Second-Half Surge Pushes Bobcats Past Niagara

HAMDEN, Conn. – Mackenzie DeWees scored a team-high 24 points to lead the Quinnipiac women's basketball team past MAAC foe Niagara, 76-57, at home inside of the People's United Center Saturday afternoon.
Along with her 24 points, DeWees added nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. Cur'Tiera Haywood contributed 15 points off the bench, while Mikala Morris tallied 13 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks for her 12th double-double of the season.
The Bobcats improved to 16-9 on the season and 10-5 in the MAAC with the victory, while the Purple Eagles fell to 12-13 on the campaign and 9-8 in conference-play with the loss.

- Niagara was able to build its lead back up to 11 with 1:30 left in the first half, but QU closed the half with a 6-1 run to cut the deficit to 33-27 at the break
- The Bobcats used the opening eighth minutes of the third quarter to go on an 23-8 run, taking a 50-41 lead in the process
- Mackenzie DeWees scored 10 of Quinnipiac's 23 points during the run
- The Bobcats eventually carried a 57-47 lead into the fourth quarter
- The Purple Eagles were able to cut the Bobcats' lead to as close as six in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as QU held on for the 19-point victory
