HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac Athletics, in conjunction with an initiative spearheaded by The Rising Coaches DEI Alliance, will be hosting Equity Week from Sunday, Feb. 13 – Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022.
Equity Week will kick off with men's basketball's contest vs. Manhattan on Sunday, Feb. 13, and will close with a women's basketball contest vs. Niagara on Saturday, Feb. 19.
The Bobcats will also participate in the second annual Blackout Day on Wednesday, February 26. Lead by Quinnipiac Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), student-athletes, coaches, staff, and fans are encouraged to wear black to practice, training, or throughout the day. This initiative is in honor of Black History Month and in support of Quinnipiac student-athletes of color. Started in 2021 by women's basketball alumna Vanessa Udoji and current student-athlete, Symone Foster, Blackout Day is a department-wide initiative intended to represent unity and support for student-athletes of color at Quinnipiac. The day will feature messages from student-athletes about the importance of creating space for our entire Bobcat community to feel welcome to share their full self in all spaces, but especially in training, competition, and in the classroom.
Other programing during Equity Week includes:
WHAT IS EQUALITY AND INCLUSION NIGHT?
Equality and Inclusion Night is a nationwide campaign designed to use our college basketball platform to keep equality in the national conversation. For a single game this year - between Feb 10-22, 2022 - we are asking all teams in men's and women's basketball to participate in Equality and Inclusion night. We are asking coaches to wear all black on the sidelines and wear the "equal sign" pin we have created to symbolize equality. Let's unite to let the world know that college basketball will stand up for Equality and Inclusion.
