BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Quinnipiac field hockey senior Stella Tegtmeier and sophomore Emilia Massarelli both earned NFHCA All-Region honors, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association earlier this week. Tegtmeier was named to the NFHCA Division I All-Mideast Region First Team, as Massarelli was named to the NFHCA Division I All-Mideast Second Team.
Tegtmeier and Massarelli become the sixth and seventh Bobcats to garner All-Region honors since Quinnipiac joined the BIG EAST. The Bobcat duo follows the likes of Jess Halley (2020-21), Bianka Strubbe ('20), Elisa Ruiz Martinez ('19), Lauren Belskie ('18) and Angie King ('17).
"These two elite level awards exemplify a season of excellence for not only Stella and Emma but for our Bobcat program," Quinnipiac field hockey head coach Becca Main said. "Both players were the catalysts for most of our scoring as a team and additionally, they are both top level defenders on our team. I am so proud of them and I look forward to the future of our program with these two at the helm."
Earlier this offseason, Tegtmeier became the second Quinnipiac player to earn All-BIG EAST First Team honors and first since Lauren Belskie in 2017, while Massarelli was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the second consecutive season.
Of her 24 points on the season, 15 of Tegtmeier's points came in Quinnipiac wins. She tallied a point in seven of Quinnipiac's eight victories in the fall, including seven points during the Bobcats' three-game win streak to end the season.
For Massarelli, this caps off a banner season in which she totaled eight goals and four assists for 20 points. Leading the Bobcats in goals scored for the second consecutive season and upped her playmaking credibility with a career-high four assists. Massarelli scored two game-winners on the campaign, with the first one being the lone goal in Quinnipiac's 1-0 upset victory over No. 22 Maine on Sept. 4. She also scored the game-winner in the Bobcats' 3-1 win over Georgetown on Oct. 14.
Despite missing the final two games of the campaign, Massarelli tallied multiple points in each of her last four appearances on the season, including a goal and an assist in Quinnipiac's 2-0 upset victory over No. 24 Penn on Oct. 23.
Massarelli and Tegtmeier helped lead Quinnipiac to eight wins in 2022, the most since the 2015 campaign where the Bobcats notched nine victories.
