QU Secures Top-Two Seed in MAAC Tournament with Victory

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Quinnipiac women's soccer secured a top-two seed in the MAAC playoffs with their 2-0 victory over Saint Peter's and will have a bye straight into the semi-finals. Seniors Olivia Scott and Kayla Mingachos recorded goals and junior netminder Sofia Lospinoso got her fourth shutout of the year.

This is the second time in Scott's career that she has tallied goals in back-to-back games, last time was in her first year against Fairfield (10/9/19) and Niagara (10/12/19). Mingachos recorded her third goal of the year and has points in the last two games.

SCORING SUMMARY
First Half

(31'—Quinnipiac 1, Saint Peter's 0): Senior Olivia Scott headed one past Saint Peter's netminder Olivia Mackethan off a corner from senior Markela Bejleri to give the Bobcats the lead going into the half.

Second Half

(49'—Quinnipiac 2, Saint Peter's 0): Senior Kayla Mingachos nearly mimicked Scott's first-half goal as she headed one in off a set piece just outside the 18-yard box from junior Rebecca Cooke to put the Bobcats up 2-0.

NOTES

The Bobcats have officially secured a top-two seed in the MAAC playoffs and a bye to the semifinals with this win over Saint Peter's.
Cooke continues to rack up points as she tallied an assist on Mingachos' goal in the second half.
Scott has scored her third goal in the last two games.
The Bobcats outshot the Peacocks 6-1 on the afternoon and had six corners to Saint Peter's one.
Sofia Lospinoso made one save through 90 minutes due to a crushing defense from the Bobcats.
