
DeWees Posts Double-Double in Bobcats' Home Loss Against Monmouth

HAMDEN, Conn.. – Senior guard Mackenzie DeWees posted 20 points, 11 rebounds and five steals to lead the Quinnipiac women's basketball team in a 70-60 loss at home against Monmouth, on Thursday evening inside of the People's United Center.
Junior forward Cur'Tiera Haywood added 16 points, while Mikala Morris 10 points, nine rebounds and three steals for the Bobcats in the loss.
The Bobcats fell to 6-6 on the season and 1-2 in the MAAC with the loss, while the Hawks improved to 7-4 on the campaign and 2–0 in conference-play.

- After Quinnipiac jumped ahead to a swift 8-2 lead, Monmouth responded with an 8-0 run of its own to take a 10-8 lead midway through the first quarter
- The Bobcats were able to use the final 3:41 of the quarter to outscore the Hawks 5-3 to tie the contest at 13-13 into the second
- After falling behind 17-13, the Bobcats responded with a 13-4 run to take a 26-21 lead with 5:41 remaining in the second quarter
- Mikala Morris scored six of Quinnipiac's 13 points during the run
- However Monmouth used the final 5:30 of the half to knot the contest at 32-32 into the break
- With the Bobcats narrowly trailing 38-36 in the third quarter, Quinnipiac used the final 8:30 of the period to outscore Monmouth 18-9 to carry a 52-47 lead into the fourth
- Monmouth used the first 5:35 of the fourth to outscore Quinnipiac 15-4, to push ahead 62-56 with 4:25 minutes to go in regulation
- The Bobcats temporarily stopped the bleeding after DeWees scored to cut the deficit to four
- However, Monmouth closed the contest with an 8-2 run to down the Bobcats 70-60
- The loss snapped Quinnipiac's 11-game win streak over Monmouth, dating back to 2017
- Mackenzie DeWees led the Bobcats with 20 points, 11 rebounds and five steals
- DeWees scored 13 of her 20 points in the first half
- The outing marked her third double-double of the season
- DeWees has tallied five or more steals in five games this season
- Cur'Tiera Haywood added 16 points in the loss
