Three Bobcats score in fourth win of the season

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's soccer team won its fourth-straight game on Wednesday, Sept. 8. The Bobcats downed the Vermont Catamounts, 3-1, matching the program's best start since 2012.

Sophomore Courtney Chochol scored the Bobcats' opening goal in the first half. Later, senior Selena Salas netted her second penalty kick goal in two straight games, recording the eventual game-winning goal. First-year Ella Gagno sealed the game with a laser of a shot from 40 yards out to give Quinnipiac the 3-1 win.

SCORING SUMMARY

First Half

(33' – Quinnipiac 1, Vermont 0): Graduate student Lauren Triglione was looking up field and played a through ball from the Bobcats back line. She found sophomore Rebecca Cooke, who dribbled towards Vermont's Lydia Kessel in goal and toe-poked it to her. Kessel made a save, and the ball rebounded to the right. Sophomore Courtney Chochol was there to tap home the Bobcats' first goal of the game.
(40' – Quinnipiac 1, Vermont 1): Bailey Ayer found Ella Bankert in the middle of the Catamount's attacking third. Bankert hit a shot from 30 yards out to junior keeper Meaghan Phillips, who dropped the ball and Alyssa Oviedo tallied the Catamounts' first goal of the game.

Second Half

(60' – Quinnipiac 2, Vermont 1): Vermont committed a hand ball inside the box in the 60th minute of the game. Senior Selena Salas netted her second penalty kick in two games to give Quinnipiac the 2-1 lead.
(83' – Quinnipiac 3, Vermont 1): After saving a shot from Cooke, Vermont's Kessel sent the ball to a teammate in the middle of the field. The Catamounts could not keep possession and first-year Ella Gagno drilled a shot from almost 40 yards out and sent the ball past Kessel.

PROGRAM HISTORY NOTES

The Bobcats improved to 4-1 all-time against the Vermont Catamounts.
Quinnipiac's 4-0 start is the best start for the program since 2012 when the team also started 4-0.
