Loney Nets Game-Winner to Lift Bobcats over Niagara

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's soccer team took down the Niagara Purple Eagles, 2-1, on the road Wednesday afternoon. The Bobcats snapped the Purple Eagles' eight-game win streak in the win, and Quinnipiac improves to 6-2 overall with a 1-1 MAAC record.
Senior Emily Loney netted the game-winning goal with three minutes to play in regulation. Junior Markela Bejleri tallied the team's first goal in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Sophomore Sofia Lospinoso got her first start of the season in the net and picked up her first win of the year.

- (55' – Quinnipiac 1, Niagara 0): Junior Olivia Scott hit a pass first-time to junior Kayla Mingachos running down the right flank. Mingachos took one touch and hit a cross into the box. Junior Markela Bejleri was making a front-post run and flicked it into the goal to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
- (78' – Quinnipiac 1, Niagara 1): The Purple Eagle got on the board about 20 minutes after Quinnipiac's goal. Djeynaba Thiam scored on a toe-poke past Sofia Lospinoso.
- (87' – Quinnipiac 2, Niagara 1): After securing the ball from first-year Madison Mandleur, senior Selena Salas shot a rocket from about 45 yards out and hit the crossbar. Senior Emily Loney was inside the box to head the rebound into the goal and lift the Bobcats over the Purple Eagles, 2-1.
- The Bobcats improved to 5-3-1 all-time against Niagara.
- Bejleri netted her first goal of the year and now has five point this season.
- Loney scored her second goal of the year and has four points.
