
Bobcats Wrap Up Day Two of Competition at New England Championships

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac track & field team completed competition at the 2021 New England Championships on May 15. Junior Symone Foster and graduate student Meaghan Scullin highlighted day two of competition with three career-best times and marks in the 100m hurdles, 400m dash and the long jump. The Bobcats recorded 75 team points, which was good for fourth place out of 29 teams. Rhode Island came in first, followed by UMass Amherst and New Hamsphire.

Individual Results - Track
- After finishing second overall in the preliminary round, junior Symone Foster placed fourth in the 100m hurdle finals with a career-best time of 13.93.
- In the 400m dash on day one, first-year Alyssa Romagnoli and graduate student Meaghan Scullin qualified for the finals. On day two, Scullin took fourth place with career-best time of 55.57 finishing in fourth place. Romagnoli took seventh in the finals with a time of 57.94.
- First-year Alessandra Zaffina finished in second place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:04.68.
- Senior Brooke Hagen finished fourth overall in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:15.30.
- Junior Emily Young took third place in the 1500m run with a time of 4:39.24, which is a new season-best time for the junior. In the same event, senior Amanda Carlson took eight place (4:44.57), and junior Mia Pestle finished in 12th place (4:51.84). Sophomore Cassidy Phillips won her heat with a season-best time of 4:57.33, finishing in 15th overall. Junior Katie Bradley tallied a time of 5:07.34 in 20th.
- Junior Aisha Gay placed 10th in the preliminary race for the 200m dash with a time of 25.95, but fell short of making the finals.
- Junior Britney Del Mundo and Gay also ran in the 100m dash. Del Mundo finished in 15th place (12.87) and Gay took 16th (12.93).
- First-year Liv DiStefano placed 14th in the 5000m finals with a time of 18:21.43.
- Senior Samantha Leal finished in 15th place in the 10000m with a time of 39:28.30.
- The 4x800m relay team of Clare Veverka, Jada Dennis, Asia Mercier and Phillips took third place with a time of 9:25.94.
- In the 4x400m relay, Scullin, Gay, Romagnoli and sophomore Eileen Donovan took second overall with a time of 3:52.70.
- Graduate student Mikah Maples tallied a 40.69m throw in the javelin, taking fifth place. Maples also tallied a second place finish in the discus throw with a 43..12m toss.
- Junior Kalli'ana Botelho posted a 1.63m mark in the high jump, finishing in fifth place.
- In the long jump, graduate student Meaghan Scullin finished in second overall with a 5.80m jump, which is a new career-best.
- Del Mundo placed fourth in the triple jump (11.45m).
