Bobcats Celebrate Fifth Cleary Cup in Last Nine Seasons with Win
HAMDEN, Conn. – The No. 10/11 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team celebrated its fifth Cleary Cup in nine seasons in style Friday night as the Bobcats scored two goals in the third period to take down the Colgate Raiders, 4-2, and extend the season-best unbeaten streak to eight games.
Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) recorded a goal and two assists to set the program record for assists in a career. Tufto passed Reid Cashman '07 on the all-time list with his 126th assist on Peter DiLiberatore's (Bedford, Nova Scotia) goal early in the first period before adding another in the third.
Tufto tied Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia) for the team lead in points Friday with three as de Jong posted his second career three-assist night. Michael Lombardi (Barrington, Rhode Island) chipped in a goal and an assist for a two-point night while Christophe Fillion (Sherbrooke, Quebec) added a goal.
Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) was spectacular between the pipes as he made 31 saves for the Bobcats, including 13 in the third period as the Bobcats took the lead for good.
Following the game, the Bobcats celebrated their ECAC Hockey Regular Season Championship with the Cleary Cup. The Bobcats have won the regular season title in five of the last nine seasons, and two of the last three.

- (6:10, 1st period – PP) – Quinnipiac 1, Colgate 0: Tufto skated the puck into the right side of the zone and fired a shot on goal that bounced off Carter Gylander's pad right to DiLiberatore who banged home the rebound.
- (13:14, 1st period) – Quinnipiac 1, Colgate 1: Nick Austin played the puck from the point to left wing and Alex Young skated back to his right and fired a wrister through traffic to tie the game.
- (8:18, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 2, Colgate 1: Fillion regained the lead for the Bobcats in the second period as Iivari Räsänen (Tampere, Finland) played a puck up the right boards and Fillion brought the puck to the right post before wristing home the puck.
- (10:45, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 2, Colgate 2: Ethan Manderville fired a puck across the zone to Ross Mitton whose shot was saved by Petruzzelli but Jeff Stewart turned and backhanded a rebound home to tie the game.
- (12:07, 3rd period) – Quinnipiac 3, Colgate 2: Tufto scored a goal of his own with less than eight minutes remaining in the third period as he backhanded home a Lombardi shot from the left wing to put the Bobcats on top for good.
- (15:57, 3rd period) – Quinnipiac 4, Colgate 2: Lombardi added an insurance goal for the Bobcats after Tufto waited patiently behind the net and drew the defense before finding Lombardi above the crease.
- Quinnipiac's Cleary Cup is its fifth in the last nine seasons, and second in the last three
- The Bobcats extended their unbeaten streak to eight games in the win, their longest unbeaten streak of the season.
- Tufto set the program record with his 126th assist, passing Reid Cashman '07 for the most in program history.
- He recorded three points Friday night to pull within one point of Cole Caufield for the national lead, ending the night with 43 points and leads the nation with 37 assists.
- Tufto now has 164 points in his career, five behind Bryan Leitch '09 and Brian Herbert '03 for the most in Division I program history.
- de Jong recorded his second career three-assist game as he set a career-high with 27 points this season
- de Jong now has points in five straight games and nine of his last 10.
- DiLiberatore scored his fifth goal of the season to extend his point streak to five games
- He now has three straight seasons with at least 19 points in his career.
- Lombardi recorded his second straight multi-point game and extended his point streak to five games with a goal and an assist
- He tied his career-high with five goals and now has 10 points with 15 points,
- Fillion scored his sixth goal of the season and 10th point with a goal Friday night.
- Räsänen notched another assist to give him points in five of the last six games.
- The Bobcats wrap up the 2020-21 Regular Season Saturday evening when they host Colgate at 4 p.m. with the game broadcast live on ESPN+ and Internationally on Stretch Internet.
