Halley Scores Both Goals in First Two-Goal Game to Lead Field Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Jess Halley (Glasgow, Scotland) tallied her first career two-goal game Sunday afternoon as the Quinnipiac field hockey team defeated the Providence Friars, 2-0, for the second time in the 2020-21 season
Halley scored both of her goals within four minutes of each other in the third period as she cleaned up a rebound just under three minutes into the quarter before deflecting home her second of the game 4:04 later off a shot from Amanda Funaro (Nesconset, New York) to make it a 2-0 game.
Funaro also added her third defensive save of the season in the game.
First-year goalkeeper Nina Santore (Berlin, New Jersey) posted her first career shutout for the Bobcats in the 2-0 win. She stood tall in cage all game long, making eight saves as she continues to make her mark as the Bobcats starting goaltender.
Quinnipiac held down a challenging effort from Providence as the Friars had 13 penalty corners and 16 total shots in the game.

SCORING SUMMARY
- 32:55 (Quinnipiac 1, Providence 0): Makayla Adams (Sweet Valley, Pennsylvania) took the original shot for the Bobcats that was saved, and Jess Halley picked up the ball and found the back of the goal to give Quinnipiac the lead.
- 36:59 (Quinnipiac 2, Providence 0): Funaro inserted the penalty corner to Halley on the wing where she fired a shot off a Providence defender's stick and into the cage for her second goal of the game.
- Halley scored the second and third goals of her career as she recorded her first multi-goal game for the Bobcats.
- She had not scored a goal since Sept. 3 at Stanford.
- Halley's multi-goal effort was the first by a Bobcat since Julianna Cappello (Mohegan Lake, New York) had two goals the double overtime win over Temple on Nov. 1, 2019.
- Funaro recorded her first career point with an assist on Halley's second goal
- She also added a defensive save in the winning effort, her third of her career.
- Santore made eight saves for the Bobcats, good for the second-most of her young career
- She has made 35 saves over her first five starts, averaging seven per game, and has 19 saves in her last two efforts.
- The shutout win for the Bobcats is their first since Sept. 22, 2019, vs. Vermont.
- Quinnipiac returns home as it takes on UConn at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium on Friday, March 26. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
