Villanova Scores Four Times in Second Quarter to Take Down Quinnipiac
CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – Villanova scored four goals in the second quarter Sunday afternoon and the Quinnipiac field hockey team fell to the Wildcats, 4-0, at the Villanova Field Hockey Field.
Both teams were scoreless through the first quarter for the second straight game before the Wildcats broke through and scored four goals in a span of 5:23 to take their 4-0 lead.
Villanova got the game's first goal off a penalty corner as Riley Dolan got on the board with a strike from the right wing.
Just over two minutes later, the Wildcats scored on another penalty corner as Meghan Mitchell swiped home the goal as she positioned herself in the center of the circle as Emily Clakre came into the short corner after inserting the ball.
Villanova scored on a counter attack 2:19 after their second goal to take a 3-0 lead as Clarke got a goal of her own as she ripped a shot from the left side of the circle. The Wildcats scored again less than a minute later as Middleman deflected a shot from Racheal Overlander.
Mitchell added a second goal with just over six minutes to go in the fourth quarter to take a 5-0 lead and finish with a game-high five points.

- 21:54 (Quinnipiac 0, Villanova 1): The Wildcats converted on their first penalty corner of the second quarter as Meghan Mitchell positioned herself in front of the cage and screened goalkeeper Nina Santore as Riley Dolan buried the goal off the feed from Sabine de Ruijter.
- 24:07 (Quinnipiac 0, Villanova 2): Off another penalty corner, Emily Clarke inserted het ball and it worked its way to the right wing. Clarke then passed the ball from the short corner across to Mitchell a few yards out for her to swipe the ball passed Quinnipiac goaltender Nina Santore.
- 26:26 (Quinnipiac 0, Villanova 3): The Wildcats countered after a Bobcats offensive possession and the ball was centered to Meghan Mitchell. Mitchell fired a shot that was directed from Amanda Middleman to Clarke on the wig where she ripped the shot into the net.
- 27:17 (Quinnipiac 0, Villanova 4): Less than a minute later, Villanova scored off another penalty corner. After a shot was saved, the rebound went out to Rachael Overlander on the right wing where she fired a shot on goal that was redirected by Middleman in front.
- 53:39 (Quinnipiac 0, Villanova 5): Mitchell scored her second of the game with just over six minutes left in the game. de Ruijter restarted the play at the 23-meter line and fired the ball through traffic toward the goal. It made its way through the defense to Mitchell just in front of the goal where she beat Santore.
NOTES
- Santore made four saves for the Bobcats before Mack Vorel (Mendham, New Jersey) made her 2020-21 debut in relief.
- Rachel Papernik (Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey) and Jess Halley (Glasgow, Scotland) each had two shots on goal to lead the Bobcats.
- Villanova had an 8-2 edge in penalty corners and 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.

- The Bobcats return back home on Thursday where they'll host the UConn Huskies at 3 p.m. at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Field before hitting the road for Providence, Rhode Island, to take on the Providence Friars at 3 p.m. on Friday.
