#11/11 Bobcats Skate to 2-2 Tie at Colgate

Räsänen, Fawcett Score For Bobcats and Burgart Nets Shootout Winner
HAMILTON, N.Y. – Iivari Räsänen (Tampere, Finland) and Matthew Fawcett (Lincoln, Rhode Island) scored critical second period goals Friday evening as the No. 11/11 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie at Colgate.
Desi Burgart (North Vancouver, British Columbia) scored the shootout winner to earn the extra point in the ECAC Hockey standings. Quinnipiac is now 3-1 in shootouts this season.
Fawcett recorded his third career two-point game, and second in as many weekends, while Joey Cipollone (Purchase, New York) recorded two assists to lead the Bobcats offensively.
Räsänen's goal was the first of his career after tallying a pair of assists earlier in the 2020-21 season.
Colgate took the lead late in the first period as Josh McKechney scored the game's initial goal as he put home a rebound with 1:17 left in the frame. After Räsänen's goal, Ethan Manderville scored a rocket but the lead was short-lived as Fawcett tied the game with 7:06 left in the second period.
Keith Petruzzelli finished with 20 saves on the 22 shots he faced Friday, and also came up big in the shootout with three key stops before Burgart buried the winner in the fourth round.

SCORING SUMMARY
- (18:43, 1st period) – Quinnipiac 0, Colgate 1: Pierson Brandon had his initial shot blocked before collecting the rebound and firing the puck on goal where Petruzzelli knocked it down. Tyler Jeanson tried to swipe it home the but puck fell off his stick and McKechney pounced on the loose puck and popped the rebound over a sprawled Petruzzelli.
- (5:54, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 1, Colgate 1: The Bobcats tied the game early in the second period as TJ Friedmann (St. Louis, Missouri) rimmed the puck and Fawcett touched it to Joey Cipollone (Purchase, New York) where he chased down the puck and he passed it up the boards to Räsänen. Räsänen collected the puck and rifled the puck on net where it made its way through traffic and beat Carter Gylander for the first of his career.
- (10:49, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 1, Colgate 2: Alex Young chased down a puck behind the goal and created a turnover before finding Evan Tschumi behind the defense with a pass. Tschumi created some space and gave Manderville time to get to the back door where he beat Petruzzelli with a wrister.
- (12:54, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 2, Colgate 2: Friedmann won a faceoff in the offensive zone and Cipollone skated into the circle to chip the puck back to Zach Metsa (Delafield, Wisconsin). Metsa skated into the high slot to wrist the puck on net where Gylander could not hold on to the puck after making the initial save but Fawcett pounced on the puck in the crease and jammed home the rebound.

NOTES
- Räsänen found the back of the net for the first time in his Quinnipiac career with a snap shot Friday night.
- He previously had two assists against Colgate and St. Lawrence before becoming the 20th different Bobcat to score a goal this season.
- Fawcett tallied a goal and an assist Friday for his third career two-point game.
- Fawcett now has four points in his last three games after recording a two goals last Friday against St. Lawrence.
- All three games that Fawcett has recorded a point have resulted in two-point games.
- Cipollone recorded his first two-point game as a Bobcat as he tallied assists on both goals for the Bobcats Friday night.
- Cipollone now has three points this season after recording his first Quinnipiac point with an assist on Dec. 26 against AIC.
- Metsa notched his 15th assist of the season with a helper Friday and set a career-high with his 18th point of the season.
- Last season, Metsa had 17 points on five goals and 12 assists, and has now surpassed that with 15 assists and 18 points in 2020-21.
- Petruzzelli made another 20 saves for the Bobcats and came up big down the stretch with nine saves in the third period and overtime.
- He now has 1.72 GAA and .931 save percentage.
- Quinnipiac and Colgate will meet up in the second game of the weekend series tomorrow evening with puck drop set for 4 p.m. at Class of 1965 Arena.
- Saturday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ in the United States and Internationally live on Stretch Internet.
