Bobcats Earn Third-Straight Win With 69-58 Victory Over Northeastern

Double-Doubles From Mikala Morris and Mackenzie DeWees Powers Bobcats Past Huskies
HAMDEN, Conn. – Junior forward Mikala Morris posted 14 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double to power the Quinnipiac women's basketball team to a 69-58 victory over Northeastern on Tuesday evening inside of the People's United Center.
Senior guard Mackenzie DeWees nearly posted a triple-double recording 12 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high seven steals, while junior guard Makenzie Helms added a career-high 15 points in the victory.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 5-3 on the season, while the Huskies fell to 6-3 with the loss.

- It was a back-and-forth affair in the opening period, as Northeastern carried an 18-17 lead into the second quarter
- Mikala Morris posted six points in the first quarter
- The Huskies maintained their one-point lead into the second quarter media timeout, holding a 24-23 advantage over the Bobcats midway through the period
- After falling behind 27-23 with less than three minutes before the break, Quinnipiac used the final 2:15 of the half to outscore Northeaster 8-2 to carry a 31-29 lead into halftime
- Cur'Tiera Haywood scored five of the Bobcats' eight points during the stretch
- The Huskies opened the second half with a 14-6 run to take a 44-37 lead with 2:50 remaining in the third quarter
- However, the Bobcats used the final 2:30 of the frame to close with a 7-0 run, knotting the contest at 46-46 into the fourth
- Quinnipiac used the first 5:10 of the fourth to outscore Northeastern 13-6 to push ahead 59-52 into the media timeout
- The lead proved to be too much for the Huskies, as the Bobcats held on for the 69-58 victory
- The win marked the third straight for the Bobcats
- Makenzie Helms led the way with a team-high 15 points
- Helms scored eight of her 15 career-high points in the first half
- Morris posted 14 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season
- Mackenzie DeWees added 12 points, 12 rebounds, seven steals and four assists in the victory
- Her seven steals marked a new career-high for the senior
- Her seven steals are tied for the third-most in a game by a player in program-history
- DeWees has tallied five or more steals in four of Quinnipiac's contests this season
- The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday. Dec. 11, when they close the non-conference portion of their schedule on the road at Providence
