
Bobcats Fall Short in MAAC Home Opener Against Fairfield

HAMDEN, Conn.. – Senior guard Mackenzie DeWees tallied 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals to lead the Quinnipiac women's basketball team, but it wasn't enough the Bobcats fell against Fairfield in their MAAC home opener, 66-62, on Monday evening inside of the People's United Center.
Junior guard Sajada Bonner added 12 points off the bench, while Cur'Tiera Haywood and Mikala Morris contributed eight points apiece for the Bobcats in the loss.
The Bobcats fell to 6-5 on the season and 1-1 in the MAAC with the loss, while the Stags improved to 5-5 on the campaign and 2–0 in conference-play.

- With the Bobcats leading 8-6 after the first six minutes of play, the Stags countered with a 9-2 run to take a 15-10 lead with less than 10 seconds remaining in the period
- Quinnipiac snapped the run after Cur'Tiera Haywood drilled a three at the buzzer to trim the Bobcats' deficit to 15-13 at the end of the first
- The Bobcats narrowly outscored the Stags 8-6 over the first 5:15 of play of the second to hold a slim 23-21 lead
- However the Stags used the final 4:30 of the half to go on a 13-4 run to take a 34-27 lead into the break
- With the Bobcats trailing 36-29 with eight minutes to go in the third, Quinnipiac used the final 7:41 of the quarter to outscore Fairfield 13-8 to cut the deficit to 44-42 entering the fourth
- After the Bobcats tied the contest at 44-44, the Stags responded with a 14-5 run before Quinnipiac called a timeout trailing 58-49 with 6:10 remaining in regulation
- The Bobcats responded with a swift 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 58-54 with 3:02 left in regulation
- However, Fairfield responded with a 5-0 run themselves to push ahead 63-54 with 2:11 left in the contest
- The Bobcats were able to cut it to as close as 65-62 before eventually falling, 66-62
- Mackenzie DeWees led the Bobcats with 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals
- Sajada Bonner added 12 points off the bench
- Bonner has reached double-figure points off the pine in four games this season
- Cur'Tiera Haywood and Mikala Morris added eight points apiece
- Lou Lopez-Senechal led Fairfield with 26 points
- The Bobcats will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 30, when Quinnipiac travels to take on Saint Peter's.
