BRONX, N.Y. – Senior Rose Caverly scored a team-best 16 points as the Quinnipiac women's basketball team dropped in its 2021-22 opener against Fordham, 79-71, in overtime on Tuesday evening inside of Rose Hill Gym.

Junior forward Mikala Morris added 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while senior guard Mackenzie DeWees contributed 15 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

GAME SUMMARY

With the Bobcats trailing 7-6 with 5:41 remaining in the first quarter, the Rams went on a 10-4 run to take a 17-10 lead with less than a minute to go in the opening period
Makenzie Helms drilled a three-pointer with 20 seconds left in the quarter to trim the Quinnipiac deficit to four heading into the second quarter
After falling behind 24-19 nearly midway through the second, the Bobcats used the final 5:10 of the half to go on 16-6 run to take a 35-30 lead into the break
Amani Free and Mackenzie DeWees combined to score 11 of Quinnipiac's 16 points on the run
Quinnipiac pushed ahead by as much as seven points at the 8:50 mark in the third quarter before Fordham countered with a 9-0 run to force a Bobcats' timeout, trailing 41-39
Out of the timeout the Rams used the final 4:18 of the stanza to outscore the Bobcats 12-5, carrying a 53-45 lead into the fourth
Behind a mid-range jumper from DeWees and a three-pointer from Rose Caverly, Quinnipiac was able to cut the deficit to three before Fordham responded with five straight points of its own to go up eight with 6:05 remaining in regulation
Trailing by eight, Quinnipiac was able to outscore Fordham 15-7 over the final six minutes of play, capped by a Caverly three with two seconds remaining to force OT

The Rams outscored the Bobcats 8-3 over the first four minutes of overtime
The deficit proved to be too much to overcome, as Quinnipiac eventually fell, 79-71
