
Cold Shooting Dooms Bobcats in Loss at George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior forward Mikala Morris tallied 12 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double to lead the Quinnipiac women's basketball team, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats suffered a 54-50 road loss at George Washington on Monday evening inside of the Charles E. Smith Center.
Senior guard Mackenzie Dewees contributed 10 points, while fellow senior guard Rose Caverly added eight points and three assists in the loss.

- Quinnipiac opened the first quarter 2-for-10 from the field, allowing George Washington to jump out to a 6-5 lead midway through the first quarter.
- The Bobcats never found their rhythm in the first quarter, entering the second trailing the Colonials, 12-10.
- Quinnipiac used the opening seven minutes of the second quarter to go on an 11-4 run
- The run was capped by back-to-back three-pointers from Cat Almeida and Mackenzie DeWees to force a George Washington timeout trailing 21-16
- The Bobcats were able to hold the Colonials to six points total in the second quarter, allowing them to carry a 23-18 lead into the break.
- The two sides remained even through the first 5:15 of the second half, with Quinnipiac maintaining a five-point lead.
- After the Bobcats pushed ahead 31-24 with 4:30 remaining in the third before the Colonials outscored them 8-5 to enter the fourth trailing Quinnipiac, 36-32.
- George Washington used the opening 2:30 of the fourth to go on a 5-0 lead to force a Quinnipiac timeout with the Bobcats trailing by one
- The Colonials scored four straight points out of the timeout before a Cur'Tiera Haywood three-pointer halted the run and cut the Bobcats' deficit to two with six minutes left in regulation
- After falling behind by five with 3:50 to go, Mackenzie DeWees scored a layup through contact and nailed the free-throw to complete the three-point play to cut the deficit to two with 3:27 remaining in regulation.
- Quinnipiac was able to cut it to as close as two with a minute remaining, but was unable to get over the hump, eventually falling 54-50.
- Quinnipiac led by as much as nine in the loss
- Quinnipiac was outrebounded 42-41
- Morris tallied 12 points and grabbed a season-best 16 rebounds for her second double-double of the season
- Her performance marked the first time a Quinnipiac player grabbed 15 or more rebounds in a game since Morris snagged 23 boards against Niagara on Feb. 26, 2021
- It was her second double-double in a row, as she posted 10 points and 13 points against No. 4 Indiana this past Saturday
- Makenzie Helms grabbed a career-high seven boards in the loss
- The loss marked the first time Quinnipiac scored 50 or less points since scoring 48 against Fairfield on Feb. 17, 2019.
- The Bobcats will be back in action on Sunday. Nov. 28, when they return home to Hamden to open a three-game homestand
- Quinnipiac will start the homestand with a 1 p.m. matinee matchup with Hartford at the People's United Center
