Metsa Scores OT Game Winner, #5/5 Bobcats Upend AIC

Smilanic Tallies Third of Year in Win
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac assistant captain Zach Metsa scored the game winner 51 seconds into overtime to propel the #5/5 Bobcats to a 2-1 win against American International on Saturday afternoon at the People's United Center.
Metsa received a short chip pass from Ethan de Jong in the defensive zone and pushed the puck up ice with pace. The defenseman worked towards the left side of the offensive zone and fired one under the bar for the game-winning goal.
Ty Smilanic opened the scoring at 13:25 of the first period as the sophomore was on the receiving end of a brilliant feed from Metsa and finished with authority.
Dylan St. Cyr made 14 saves in the win for his third victory as a Bobcat. The graduate student finishes the three-game week with a 2-0-1 record.

- The Bobcats dominated the pace of play from start to finish, outshooting AIC 45-15. Rand Pecknold's squad attemped 75 total shots, tallying nearly 160 total shot attempts on the weekend.
- Both teams failed to convert on the man advantage as the Bobcats went 0-5 and AIC was 0-2.
- QU controlled the faceoff battle as well, winning 39 of 62 draws, including an impressive effort by Ethan Leyh, who won nine of 10.
- Metsa recorded his second multi-point night of the week and eighth of his career.
- Quinnipiac opens ECAC Hockey play next weekend with road games at Yale and Brown. Puck drop at Ingalls Rink on Friday is set for 7 PM, while Saturday's contest in Providence will begin at 4 PM.
