Women's Golf Takes First Place at St. John's Invitational

Three Bobcats Finish Within Top-Five at St. John's Invitational
HASTINGS-on-Hudson, N.Y. – Quinnipiac golf concluded its Fall season at the St. John's Invitational on Monday afternoon with a first-place finish in the round among 10 teams, shooting 286 (+2), 14 strokes ahead of second-place UAlbany. Quinnipiac's score of 286 set a new program-record for best single round in program-history, topping the previous record of 289.
The invitational was supposed to be 36 holes played over two days, but due to unplayable conditions on Tuesday due to rain, the second round was canceled.
"I'm very proud of the focus the team had at the St. John's event," Quinnipiac golf head coach John O'Connor said. "In what was a very competitive field, the team showed just how good they can be!"
The Bobcats had three players finish within the top-five, led by junior Kaylee Sakoda and sophomore Aimee Uchida, who each tied for first. Making her season-debut on Monday, Sakoda shot a 69 (-2) to lead the Bobcats. Uchida followed with the same score, aming to earn a fifth consecutive top-10 finish to open the season.
Junior Leeyen Peralta closely followed her teammates, tying for fourth place. A native of Brea, Calif., Peralta shot a 72 (+1) for her best round of the Fall season. First years Meg Yoshida and Elyse Kim rounded out Quinnipiac's grouping, tying for 15th and tying for 28th, respectively. Yoshida shot a 76 (+5), while Kim carded 79 (+8) for the round.
Quinnipiac also had three individuals compete at the St. John's Invitational, led by senior Darby Lillibridge's tie for 21st place. A native of Genova, Ill., Lillibridge shot 6-over 77 in the first round to pace the Bobcats' individuals. Senior Elena Lopez and junior Mia Grzywinski rounded out Quinnipiac's individuals, shooting 10-over 81 and 11-over 82, respectively.
