Chau Records Three-Point Night in Win
HAMDEN, Conn. – Graduate student Oliver Chau scored twice and added an assist to help guide #7/7 Quinnipiac to a 5-2 victory over #6/6 North Dakota on Friday night.
Five minutes after North Dakota's Matteo Costantini opened the scoring on the Fighting Hawks' first shot of the game, Chau responded to even the score with his first goal of the season. Ethan de Jong made a strong defensive play and created a 2-on-1 for Chau and Brendan Less. The duo exchanged passes in the offensive zone before Chau finished it off.
5:35 into the second period, Joey Cipollone took a feed from Ethan Leyh and went behind-the-back to flip a backhand past Zach Driscoll and give the Bobcats the lead.
Jayden Lee fired home a one-timer off a Zach Metsa dish for what would become the game-winning goal and the first powerplay goal of the Bobcats' season.
Ty Smilanic extended the lead in the third period when he finished off a one-timer of his own on the powerplay. Smilanic's second of the season was assisted by Metsa and Chau.
North Dakota standout Jake Sanderson pulled the Fighting Hawks closer with a powerplay snipe at 15:17, but Chau's empty-netter in the final minute closed out Quinnipiac's first-ever victory over North Dakota.
