Netherlands-Native Scored 74 Goals in Two-Year Span for NAC Breda
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's soccer head coach Eric Da Costa has announced the addition of striker Gijs Kila to the program's roster heading into the 2020 season.
Kila, a native of Dordrecht, Netherlands, joins the Bobcats after playing for NAC Breda – a Dutch professional football club. He was immediately selected as a starting player for NAC Breda U16, scoring 34 goals during his first season with the program. Kila followed that performance up with 40 goals the following year for NAC Breda U17, then advanced to the U19 program early.
"Gijs is an excellent addition to the family," Da Costa said. "He has a great personality with tremendous character. As a player, Gijs has a proven goal-scoring record in the highest youth leagues in Holland. His experience and skill set will compliment and strengthen our squad. We look forward to his arrival and to welcoming him and his family as we take this journey together."
Growing up, Kila always played in the highest youth organizations in Orajne-Wit – where he was scouted by professional Dutch soccer clubs. He then joined NAC Breda, where he scored against every Dutch professional club youth team academy team. Kila was selected to NAC Breda's Senior Talent Team in 2019-20. He made his debut for the First Team in a preseason game during that season.
"It feels really good to make my commitment to Quinnipiac," Kila said. "I am looking forward to starting with the Bobcats, and I hope I can contribute to the program immediately. I chose Quinnipiac for multiple reasons. The facilities look incredible in comparison to the ones here in the Netherlands, and my discussions with the coaching staff also helped greatly. The school is also in a nice location with great academics. I can't wait to begin with my teammates!"
