MEDIA, Pa. / WILMINGTON, Del. - Quinnipiac men's tennis returns to play for the first time in more than two weeks this weekend, competing in non-conference play vs. Saint Joseph's on Saturday (5:00 PM) and against Delaware on Sunday (12:00 PM).

SPRING RESULTS SO FAR

The Bobcats have competed in two events so far this spring, falling against Brown (Jan. 19) and Binghamton (Jan. 20).
Seniors Axel Stern and Austin Yannone led the way for the Bobcats on Jan. 19, each winning a singles match against the Bears. Stern and Aleksa Martinovic also earned a No. 2 doubles win.
Axel Stern and Aleksa Martinovic won a doubles match for the second-straight day on Jan. 20, and Patrick Cachapero and Alester Magalit each earned a win in singles play to lead Quinnipiac.

2020 MAAC COACHES' POLL

Quinnipiac men's has been tabbed No. 3 in the 2020 MAAC Men's Tennis Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020.
The Bobcats finished with 35 total points in the 2020 Preseason MAAC Coaches' poll. Monmouth earned 49 points and the No. 1 spot in the poll, while Fairfield finished just ahead of Quinnipiac with 37 points.

FALL RECAP

Quinnipiac has already picked up one match win against Holy Cross this year, which came on Oct. 5 by the final score of 4-3. Senior Axel Stern has won a team-high 14 matches already (seven singles, seven doubles) this season, going 7-4 in singles play.
Sophomore Aleksa Martinovic has posted 12 wins, going 7-2 in doubles matches with Axel Stern. Sophomore Alester Magalit and junior Hielke Moore have both earned 11 wins so far in 2019-20, and senior Patrick Cachapero has totaled 10 victories. The Bobcats won nine matches in 2018-19, topping Marist in the MAAC Semifinals on April 27 by the final score of 4-1 to advance to the conference title contest for the first time since the 2015-16 season. Quinnipiac fell vs. Monmouth, 4-0, in the MAAC Championship.

THE 2019-20 BOBCATS

This year's Quinnipiac men's tennis program is compiled of four sophomores (Clark Davis, Alester Magalit, Aleksa Martinovic, Bryan Schick), one junior (Hielke Moore), and three seniors (Patrick Cachapero, Axel Stern, Alester Magalit).

LAST YEAR

Quinnipiac turned in an impressive 2018-19 season, advancing to the MAAC Tournament title contest for the first time since 2015-16. The Bobcats went 9-13 (4-2 MAAC) in total, cruising past No. 2 Marist, 4-1, in the semifinal round of the conference tournament.
Under Head Coach Chris Pappas' guidance Quinnipiac earned six All-MAAC honors, highlighted by Alester Magalit being named 2019 MAAC Rookie of the Year. Magalit is the fourth player in program history to be named conference Rookie of the Year.Head Coach Chris Pappas' first five seasons with the Bobcats have been impressive, as the two-time MAAC Coach of the Year selection has guided the program to a 26-8 MAAC record (2014-15 – current).

THE 2019-20 SCHEDULE

The Bobcats announced their 2019-20 schedule on Monday, July 22.
Quinnipiac's 2019-20 schedule will feature three tournaments in the fall, beginning with the Quinnipiac Invitational (Sept. 20-22). The Bobcats will participate in the Brown Invite (Sept. 27-29) and the CT State Championships at Yale (Nov. 3-5). The program also hosts Holy Cross/Sacred Heart (both on Oct. 5).
Quinnipiac Tennis Alumni day will take place on Oct. 26. The Bobcats will host Wesleyan and Bryant during the day, there will be a 5-point tournament for alumni, and the day will conclude with a reception at President Judy Olian's house.
