Quinnipiac's 52-game MAAC Winning Streak Ends
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's basketball saw its 52-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference winning streak come to an end at the hands of the Iona Gaels on Thursday night. Paige Warfel earned her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.
Mackenzie DeWees made her second career start and posted 14 points, six assists, and six steals in the effort.
The Gaels shot nearly 50 percent from the floor and forced 19 Quinnipiac turnovers on the evening.

- The Gaels opened up an early lead by shooting 47 percent in the first quarter, including three three-pointers in the frame.
- De'jah Williams outscored Quinnipiac on her own in the opening 4:30, including a jumper that gave Iona its largest lead of the quarter at 11-5.
- Trailing 13-8, the Bobcats went on a 9-3 run to take the lead, but Williams knocked down a triple to end the quarter with a 19-17 lead.
- The teams exchanged leads through most of the second quarter before Iona opened up a six-point edge on another Williams layup with 2:07 until halftime.
- However, Quinnipiac answered with its best run of the game, scoring three times and adding a free throw to take a one-point lead into the break.
- The third quarter was Iona's period from the get-go, as the visitors outscored the Bobcats 25-14, thanks to 75 percent shooting from the field and 5-7 from long distance.
- Quinnipiac gave its best shot at a comeback in the fourth quarter by locking down defensively and only allowing 14 Iona points. The Bobcats forced six turnovers in the period and cut the lead to five points on three separate occasions, but were unable to pull closer until Warfel's free throw with three seconds left.
- Warfel matched a career-high with 15 rebounds and was two points shy of her career-high in points.
- DeWees set new career marks with six steals and six assists, while also knocking down a pair of three-pointers for the second game in a row.
- Sajada Bonner shot 5-10 from the floor, including two threes, to set a career-high of 12 points. The first year also posted career marks in rebounds (6) and steals (3).
- The loss ends Quinnipiac's 52-game MAAC winning streak, which was the 10th-longest streak in the history of Division I women's college basketball.
- The game also marks Quinnipiac's second loss in its last 51 conference home games.
- Quinnipiac will hit the road for two consecutive games beginning with a Saturday afternoon tip at Siena on January 4. The Bobcats and Saints will kick off the contest at 2:00 p.m. from Alumni Recreation Center in Loudonville, New York.
