HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team continues MAAC play as they travel to Fairfield to take on the Stags on Saturday night.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bobcats got MAAC play underway traveling to Siena on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats would drop a five-set thriller. Maggie Baker led the way with 18 kills and Aryanah Diaz would record her first of two double-doubles on the weekend with 35 assists and 12 digs. On Sunday, they traveled to Marist dropping a hard-fought match in four sets. Lydia Jones posted a team-high six blocks, and Diaz recorded 20 kills.
SCOUTING THE STAGS
Fairfield is currently on a five game win streak, including opening up MAAC play with two wins against Marist and Siena. The Stags defeated Marist 3-0 and Siena 3-1. They were picked to finish second in the MAAC Preseason Poll. Fairfield is currently the best defensive team in the MAAC with opposing team's only hitting .182 against them. Junior Middle Blocker Kaylie Butts leads the Stags with 44 blocks on the season, and Junior Middle Blocker Luci Albertson is right behind her with 37 blocks.
TRIPLE-DOUBLE DIAZ
Freshman Outside Hitter Aryanah Diaz recorded her first career triple-double against New Hampshire. Diaz finished with 20 digs, 16 assists and 14 kills. Her triple-double was the first Quinnipiac volleyball triple-double recorded since 2007. Diaz also has recorded a double-double in the last two games against Siena and Marist.
OUTSTANDING OATES
Senior Middle Blocker Kaleigh Oates was named MAAC Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday, September 10. She received this honor for her play at the Knights Fall Classic.
PRESEASON POLL
Quinnipiac was picked to finish fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Poll as announced by the league office on Tuesday, August 20. The Bobcats also received a first place vote for the second time in three seasons.
VETERAN LEADERSHIP
Alejandra Rodriguez (Toa Alta, P.R.), Lauren Miller (Collegeville, Pa.), Maria Pansari (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) and Kaleigh Oates (Downingtown, Pa.) return as seniors for the Bobcats. All four seniors saw significant playing time last season with all of them playing more than 80 sets over the course of the season. Rodriguez and Pansari played all 112 sets last season.
NEW FACES
The Bobcats welcome four new players to the team for the 2019 season. Freshmen Alisa Mejia (Rye Brook, N.Y.) and Aryanah Diaz (Miami, Fla.) come in as college rookies. Georgia Tselepi (Athens, Greece) and Olga Zampati (Athens, Greece) come in as transfers from other Division 1 colleges. Tselepi comes to Quinnipiac after transferring from Cincinnati and Zampati comes from Oklahoma.
ROBINSON ERA IS HERE
Head Coach Kyle Robinson picked up his first win as a Bobcat in a 3-0 win against Seton Hall at the Morgan State Invitational.
