Women's Basketball Falls Short Against Colonials
HAMDEN, Conn. – Despite a 23-point first quarter, its highest first quarter point total of the season, the Quinnipiac women's basketball team was defeated by George Washington, 78-67, on its home floor on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Shaq Edwards scored in double-figures for the fifth time this season with an 18-point effort and senior Paige Warfel pulled down a season-high 14 rebounds in the loss.
George Washington's Tori Hyduke led all scorers with 22 points on the day.

- The Bobcats opened up the game with six of the first eight points scored but eventually found things tied at 11 after a layup by GW's Maddie Loder.
- Cur'Tiera Haywood's second triple of the game sparked an 11-0 Quinnipiac run over a three minute span, making the score 22-11 with 2:06 remaining in the first quarter.
- A 12-4 Colonials run cut the Bobcats lead to three points early in the second quarter before Mackenzie DeWees knocked down a three to start another solid stretch for the home team.
- The DeWees three began a rapid 8-1 run that put the Bobcats back up by ten, but George Washington responded by scoring the next ten points and tying the game at 36 with 2:27 until halftime.
- The two sides traded points in the first five minutes of the second half, but Quinnipiac ultimately fell behind due to a 1-18 shooting effort in the third quarter.
- The Colonials outscored the Bobcats 17-8 in the frame and shot 50 percent in the period.
- Three consecutive layups by Shaq Edwards kept the Bobcats within six points in the fourth quarter, but the Colonials pulled away with a 12-3 run in the middle of the frame and put the game away.
- Warfel nearly recorded her third double-double of the season, but finished one point shy with her nine-point outing.
- Haywood earned the first start of her career and tallied a career-high 13 points along with two assists, two steals, and two rebounds.
- Edwards scored 11 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter.
- The Bobcats only turned the ball over eight times, while forcing 15 turnovers from the Colonials.
