Paige Warfel Records Double-Double in Season Opener
HAMDEN, Conn. – Four Quinnipiac players scored in double figures in the 2019-20 women's basketball season opener, but the Bobcats ultimately fell, 66-62, to Drexel on Tuesday night.
Drexel senior Bailey Greenberg led all scorers with 31 points, thanks largely in part to 19-21 from the free throw line. Teammate Maura Hendrixson knocked down six three-pointers in an 18-point night.

- Three different Bobcats scored in the opening minutes of play to give the hosts an early 6-0 lead.
- After a tight first quarter that saw the Bobcats take a 15-13 lead, Drexel used a 20-13 second quarter to carry a five-point advantage into the halftime break.
- Drexel extended its lead to nine points midway through the third quarter before a 10-0 Quinnipiac run gave the hosts a 43-42 advantage with 1:34 remaining in the frame.
- The teams battled down the stretch in the fourth quarter, with neither team able to gain more than a four-point edge until Drexel went up by six on a Hendrixson triple with 1:01 on the clock.
- The Bobcats had a chance to tie the game after Herd completed a traditional three-point play with 48 seconds left to cut the deficit to 63-60. A Drexel missed jumper and a Warfel defensive rebound allowed head coach Tricia Fabbri to call timeout and draw up a play for Herd to tie the game. The senior got a good look from behind the arc, but was unable to convert, allowing Drexel to close the game out at the free throw line.
- Herd led the way offensively for the Bobcats, totaling 15 points on the evening. The senior added five rebounds and an assist for the hosts in the loss.
- Warfel was dominant on both ends for the Bobcats, scoring 12 points and adding 13 rebounds in the opener. The senior had two double-doubles last season and scored in double figures eight times.
- The Bobcats had eight different scorers in the effort, including three first-years and junior transfer Shaquana Edwards.
- Edwards scored 10 points and grabbed six steals in her Quinnipiac debut. The La Salle transfer also picked up two assists in the game.
- First-year student Sajada Bonner scored ten points in her collegiate debut and added two rebounds in the affair.
- Fellow first year Cur'Tiera Haywood scored eight points on 3-5 shooting for the Bobcats. The rookie added two rebounds, an assist, and a block in her first collegiate outing.
- The Dragons outrebounded the Bobcats, 43-35, and committed 13 turnovers to Quinnipiac's 16.
- The Bobcats earned the edge in the paint, outscoring Drexel by 12 points (32-20).
- The Bobcats hit the road for the first time in 2019-20 as they visit Yale in New Haven on Wednesday, November 13. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Lee Amphitheater.
