
Volleyball Completes Unbeaten Weekend, Defeats Iona in Five Sets

Bobcats win second consecutive match in five sets
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team defeated the Iona Gaels 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Hynes Athletic Center.
The Bobcats finished the weekend 2-0 for the first time in MAAC play this season.
Two Bobcats recorded double-doubles in the win, First-year Outside Hitter Aryanah Diaz recorded 26 assists and 11 kills, and Sophomore Outside Hitter Olga Zampati tallied 15 kills and 12 digs.

SET ONE
Iona won the first three points of the set, but a Kaleigh Oates kill would get the Bobcats on the board. The teams would go point for point through the early stages of the set. Quinnipiac called timeout with Iona leading 13-10. Quinnipiac would get within one of tying the set, but Iona won three straight points to push their lead to 18-14. Iona called timeout with the Bobcats on a 3-0 run, which cut the Iona lead to 19-18. The Bobcats tied the set up at 21 through an Iona attack error. Quinnipiac called their last timeout of the set facing set point, 24-22. The Bobcats fought off two set points to tie the set at 24. The Bobcats fought off four set points in total, but Iona took the set 28-26.
SET TWO
The Bobcats took an early 4-2 lead in the set. The Bobcats went on a 3-0 run to take an 11-8 lead. Iona called their first timeout of the set with the Bobcats leading 13-9. Coming out of the timeout, the Bobcats won five of six points to take an 18-10 lead. Iona would go on a 3-0 run to fight off set point, but the Bobcats won the next point to take the set 25-17.
SET THREE
Quinnipiac took an early 3-1 lead. Iona went on a 3-0 run to take a 4-3 lead. The Bobcats went on a 3-0 run to take a 12-9 lead, which led to an Iona timeout. The Bobcats used another run, this time a 4-0 run to take an 18-12 lead, which forced Iona to call their final timeout of the set. The Gaels came out of the timeout and went on a 4-0 run of their own to cut the Bobcat lead to 18-16, which led to a Bobcats timeout. The Bobcats would fight off a late Iona run to take the set 25-21.
SET FOUR
Iona jumped out to a 5-2 lead. Iona extended their lead to 7-2, forcing a Bobcats timeout. Iona would increase their lead to 11-2, but Quinnipiac would go on a 5-0 run to cut the Gael lead to 11-7, forcing an Iona timeout. The Bobcats would come within one point, 12-11, but Iona won three of the next four points to take a 15-12 lead. The Bobcats called their second timeout of the set with the Gaels leading 18-13. The Bobcats won three consecutive points to cut the Iona lead to 22-19, forcing an Iona timeout. The Gaels won three of the final four points to take the set 25-20.
SET FIVE
The teams went point for point to tie the set at four. The teams switched sides with the Bobcats leading 8-6. The Bobcats went on a 3-0 run to take a 12-9 lead, forcing an Iona timeout. The teams would go point for point until the Bobcats won the final two point to win the set 15-11, and the match 3-2.
