
Volleyball Defeats Iona in Home Opener

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball won their 2019 home opener over Iona by a score of 3-1. Maggie Baker led the Bobcats offensively with 15 kills, while Alejandra Rodriguez led the Bobcats defensively with 27 digs.
The Bobcats pick up their first MAAC win of the season, and it is head coach Kyle Robinson's first conference win as a Bobcat.

SET ONE
Kaleigh Oates put an exclamation point on the early stages of the first set with a block to give the Bobcats a 4-1 lead in the set. QU would get out to a 9-3 lead, forcing Iona to call timeout. The Bobcats would go on a 4-0 run in the set to force Iona to call their final timeout of the set. At that time, QU led 16-10. Iona would go on a 4-0 of their own to cut the Bobcat lead to 21-18 in the set. The Bobcats would win a long rally to give them a 24-20 lead, and then a Kaleigh Oates kill would give the Bobcats the set win.
SET TWO
The teams would trade points back and forth until Iona took a 10-7 lead in the set, forcing the Bobcats to take a timeout. The Bobcats would gain momentum coming out of their timeout. They would go on a 3-0 to tie the set at 13, forcing Iona to take a timeout. The Bobcats would continue their run out of the timeout, extending their run to 8-0 to take an 18-13 lead. After trailing 10-7 in the set, the Bobcats would go on an 18-6 run to take the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
SET THREE
Iona would begin the set on a 5-0 run, before Kaleigh Oates would get a kill to give the Bobcats their first point of the set. The Bobcats would call a timeout with the Gaels leading 7-1. The Bobcats would call timeout with the Gaels leading 14-2. The Bobcats would settle into the set, cutting the Iona lead to 22-14, but Iona would take the set 25-15.
SET FOUR
The Bobcats would take their first lead of the set at 7-6. The Bobcats would call their first timeout of the set with the Gaels leading 12-9. The Bobcats would win three of the next four points out of the timeout to cut the Iona lead to 13-12. The Bobcats would tie the set at 15, and then take a 17-16 lead in the set. The Bobcats would build on their lead and take a 23-18 lead in the set. The Bobcats would close out the set 25-19 and win the match 3-1.
