
Sherwin, Baker Post 20+ Kills in Loss to Manhattan

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team dropped a tough five set match to Manhattan on Sunday afternoon. Maggie Baker and Morgan Sherwin led the Bobcats offensively with 25 and 23 kills respectively.

SET ONE
The Bobcats defense at the net set the tone in the early stages, headlined by a block by Kaleigh Oates and Morgan Sherwin to give the Bobcats a 3-1 lead. The Bobcats went on a 4-0 run to give them a 7-4 lead in the set. Quinnipiac would continue to build their lead, going on a 3-0 run to push their lead to 13-7, forcing a Manhattan timeout. The Jaspers would go on a 7-0 run to tie the set at 15. The Bobcats would answer that run by winning two straight points, capped off by a Morgan Sherwin kill to give QU a 17-15 lead. A 2-0 run from the Bobcats would give them a 20-18 lead, forcing Manhattan to call their final timeout of the set. QU would call timeout leading 21-20 in the first set. Manhattan would come out of the timeout and win the next two points to take a 22-21 lead. After QU tied the set at 22, Manhattan would take the lead 24-22, but the Bobcats would fight off two set points to tie the set at 24. Manhattan took the lead 26-25 to force the Bobcats to call their final timeout of the set. The Bobcats would fight off seven set points, but Manhattan would take the set 32-30.
SET TWO
The Bobcats took an early 8-4 lead in the set. The Bobcats would force Manhattan to call a timeout, leading 10-4. The Bobcats would go on a 10-0 run to take a 15-4 lead in the set, forcing Manhattan to call their final timeout of the set. Manhattan would go on a 3-0 run, cutting their deficit to 18-11, resulting in a Bobcats timeout. The Bobcats would close out the set 25-17 through a Maggie Baker kill.
SET THREE
After being down 2-0 in the set, the Bobcats would go on a 4-0 run to take the lead. With the Bobcats leading 13-5 in the set, the Jaspers would call their first timeout of the set. Maggie Baker would come out of the timeout and hammer down a kill to set the tone for the Bobcats. The Bobcats play at the net proved to be too strong for the Jaspers as the Bobcats blockers would stop a lot of the Jaspers offense. A 5-0 run from the Bobcats gave them a 23-10 lead in the set, and they would go on to win the set 25-12.
SET FOUR
The Bobcats would jump out to an early 7-5 lead in the set. After Manhattan tied the set up at 7, the Bobcats would win the next three points to take a 10-7 lead. The Bobcats would maintain their lead through the middle of the set with both teams trading points. Manhattan took their first timeout of the set with Quinnipiac leading 17-13. Manhattan would win five of the next six points coming out of the timeout to tie the set at 18. Manhattan would take the lead 20-19. But the Bobcats would come back and win the next two points to take a 21-20 lead. The Bobcats would win the next point as well to force Manhattan to take their final timeout of the set. The Bobcats would call timeout facing set point at 24-23. The Bobcats would fight off that set point through a Lauren Miller kill. The Bobcats would fight off another set point at 25-24, and would take the lead at 26-25. But Manhattan would take the set 28-26.
SET FIVE
An ace from Maggie Baker would give the Bobcats their first lead in the set at 2-1. Only one point would separate the teams throughout the first half of the decisive set, until the Bobcats took an 8-6 lead into the side switch. Manhattan would win three straight points to take a 9-8 lead, resulting in a Bobcats timeout. The Bobcats would take their final timeout of the set with Manhattan leading 12-10. The Bobcats would win three straight points to tie the set at 13. Manhattan would win the next two points to win the set 15-13 and win the match 3-2.
