CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Quinnipiac rugby team heads into its second game of NIRA play on Saturday afternoon as the Bobcats visit the Harvard University Crimson. The contest is scheduled to begin at noon at Harvard's Mignone Field.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac senior Mikah Maples scored three first-half tries, including one in the second minute of play, to lead the women's rugby team to a commanding 74-20 victory over the Notre Dame College Falcons two weeks ago. Maples led the Bobcats with her three tries and sophomore Mckenna Haz posted 19 points with seven conversions and a try.
Scouting Harvard
The Crimson came out firing on all cylinders to beat Dartmouth 50-32 in its season opener. Harvard now moves to 2-1 on the season. Senior Emily Prentice and first-year Achele Agada lead the way each with two tries on the day for the Crimson. Milan Roberts added three conversions to the scored book for Harvard totaling six points.
All-Time Against Harvard
Harvard currently owns a 4-1 all-time record against the Bobcats with Quinnipiac's only victory in the series coming on September 17, 2013. The 39-10 win at Mignone Field came in the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Where They Stand - NIRA STANDINGS
The Bobcats and Crimson are currently tied for third place in the NIRA Tier I standings with five points a piece. Both teams earned four points for their respective league victory and received a bonus point in the standings for scoring more than four tries in the match. The teams trail Dartmouth by one point for second place and league leader Army West Point, who currently stands atop the board with ten points.
Mikah's Money
Senior Mikah Maples (Moweaqua, Illinois) returned to the lineup against Notre Dame College and immediately recorded three tries in Quinnipiac commanding win. The NIRA All-American was dominant last season as she reached 10 tries for a second straight campaign. Maples led the team with 10 tries, in addition to having a team-high three multi-try games. In her career, Maples now has 28 tries.
Mckenna Haz Points
Sophomore standout Mckenna Haz recorded a season-high 19 points in the win over Notre Dame. The performance included seven conversions and a try and was the highest offensive output of all Bobcats this year. Haz led the team last season with 72 points thanks to two 28 conversions, two penalty kicks, and two tries.
Clara Que Si
Clara Lemal-Brown (Wooster, Ohio) had two tries and an assist in the Bobcats' win over Notre Dame College including 95-yard burst down the sideline that showed her impressive speed and agility. Lemal-Brown also tallied a pair of tries earlier in the year to help erase an eight-point deficit and give Quinnipiac a 23-22 victory over Penn State. The sophomore now has 10 tries in her career after picking up six a year ago.
'Koen" You Dig It?
Sophomore Allison Koenig continued her solid start to her sophomore campaign as she picked up two tries and an assist in the win over Notre Dame College two weeks ago. The Wisconsin native started 2019 right where she left off in 2018 as she scored Quinnipiac's first try of the season against Harvard. She broke free from beyond midfield and stiff-armed a Harvard defender before finishing off the first try of the contest less than two minutes into the game. After tallying seven scores in her freshmen campaign, Koenig has now accumulated 11 tries in her career.
Spreading the Love
Quinnipiac was extremely unselfish with the ball last season, taking a team approach to scoring as 10 different players found the try zone on the year. In addition to 10 total scorers, five different players recorded at least six tries. Five freshmen also recorded tries for the Bobcats. So far this season, the Bobcats have seen six players find the try zone with three regular season games left on the schedule.
Can You Kick It?
Yes she can! Ceolin's three first half penalty kicks set the tone for the Bobcats in this season's win over Penn State. The freshman followed them up with a 63rd minute conversion that gave Quinnipiac a one-point lead and eventual victory. The three penalty kicks are the most in a single game by any Bobcat in program history. The program record for penalty kicks in a season is four.
New Cats On The Block
Eight players have made their Quinnipiac debuts so far this season as Maya le Rossignol, Hazel Bice, Libby Moser, Addison Walker, Erin Terwilliger, Bianca Ceolin, Grace Gitchell, and Gracie Cartwright all played key minutes in two-game homestand against Harvard and Penn State. In the victory over Penn State, the Bobcats starting lineup consisted of no seniors, five juniors, and 10 underclassmen.
Erin Try-Williger
Freshman Erin Terwilliger jumpstarted her collegiate career with a try in the Bobcats' home opener last weekend. Terwilliger vaulted herself over a pile of teammates and opponents for a try in the 71st minute of play against Harvard.
Roskopf Returns
Four-time NIRA All-American Emily Roskopf (Dublin, California) returns to the Quinnipiac Rugby Field this season as the official color commentator for the program's three home games. Roskopf will join a play-by-play commentator from the Quinnipiac Bobcats Sports Network for all three events.

Head coach Becky Carlson and the Quinnipiac women's rugby program have announced a seven-match regular season schedule for the 2019 campaign, including home contests against Harvard, Penn State and Army West Point. For the second consecutive season, the Bobcats open up the year with two straight Saturday afternoon home matches.

Ten student-athletes from three countries and five states will comprise the incoming freshmen class for the Quinnipiac rugby program. The class of 2023 includes two student-athletes each from Canada, California, and Vermont, while players from Indiana, Connecticut, New York, and the United Kingdom round out the group. "Quinnipiac Athletics, the university and coaching staff are more than thrilled in welcoming our 2019 incoming class," said Carlson. "Each student-athlete who is joining us this fall brings their own unique strengths, skill-set and level of determination to the table, all of which are extremely high. Our 2019 freshmen will be ready out of the gate to bring a sense of high energy and willingness to compete that will fit right in with our current squad. We are looking forward to seeing some early leaders emerge both on and off the field which molds well with their high academic standards."
