
Women's Ice Hockey to Take on Maine in Orono

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's hockey team will travel to Orono, Maine for two road games against the University of Maine Black Bears on Oct. 11-12.
Game Notes
Last Time Out
The Bobcats opened the 2019-20 season with a home-and-home series against the Providence Friars. On Friday, Oct. 4, Quinnipiac defeated Providence, 2-1, at Schneider Arena. Junior Taylor House scored the game-winning goal for her first of the season. Freshman Alexa Hoskin added her first career goal on the power play in the 2-1 win.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, Providence took the second game of the series against Quinnipiac, 3-2, with a last-minute game-winning goal. House and senior Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout scored the Bobcats' two goals. Senior netminder Abbie Ives made 19 saves in the loss.
Scouting Maine
The Black Bears are 2-0-0 on the season after earning two shutout wins against Sacred Heart. Maine defeated the Pioneers, 4-0 and 7-0, in the opening weekend. Senior Tereza Vanišová leads the Black Bears with two goals and two assists for four points.
All-Time Against the Black Bears
Quinnipiac has an all-time record of 13-14 against Maine. In 2018, Quinnipiac dropped two games to Maine at home, 2-1 and 3-0.
A Look at Last Season
Quinnipiac finished the 2018-19 season in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Hockey Tournament in a battle of a series against the Clarkson Golden Knights. The Bobcats tallied a 12-18-6 record last year.
Returning Numbers
The Bobcats lost five seniors in 2019, but will return 15 letter-winners from last season. Of the top ten scorers from 2018-19, six will return for the Bobcats, including two defensemen, Kati Tabin and Zoe Boyd. In the net, Abbie Ives returns for her senior campaign after recording a .924 save percentage and 1.89 GAA last year. Ives' 1.73 career GAA is ranked fifth in the program's all-time individual career records list.
Leading the Charge
The captains for the Bobcats have been named ahead of the 2019-20 season. Wearing the "C" will be seniors Kenzie Prater and Kati Tabin. The alternate captains will be senior Abbie Ives and junior Olivia Konigson.
Schedule Breakdown
The Bobcats have 34 games slated for the 2019-20 season. Quinnipiac will face six non-conference teams including Providence, Maine, Sacred Heart, Minnesota Duluth, Merrimack and Ohio State. Of the non-conference teams, Minnesota Duluth and Ohio State were ranked in the first poll of the season at #10 and #9, respectively.
Tabin's Summer
The senior defenseman was named to the BFL National Women's Development Team for Team Canada's Summer Showcase. The camp took place in Calgary at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park from Aug. 2-11. Eighty-nine of the Canada's top under-18 and development team talents were selected. Tabin was also invited back to camp for Hockey Canada's National Women's Team Fall Festival for the second year in a row. The camp took place in Liverpool, N.S., from Sept. 9-15, after the Summer Showcase.
Alumnae Spotlight
Melissa Samoskevich '19 was invited to attend the 2019 USA Hockey Women's National Festival that took place from Aug. 5-13. In addition, Anna Kilponen '19 signed to play with the Linköping Hockey Club in Sweden.
